That brings us to the end of our coverage for this nail-biting encounter. This is Nikhil Kalla signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Abhishek Sharma and our expert scorer-analyst Yogesh Kumar. It has been an absolute privilege bringing all the live action and drama of this high-stakes match straight to you.
What a breathtaking finish to a truly sensational game of cricket! Bangladesh Champions have pulled off a stunning heist, defending a modest total of 141 to defeat India Champions by just 3 runs. While their batting unit put up a fighting total on the board, it was the Bangladesh bowlers who stole the spotlight today. They showed immense grit, executed their plans perfectly under pressure, and choked the powerful Indian batting lineup right at the death to seal a memorable victory in this absolute thriller.
Mohammad Mahmudullah (Bangladesh Champions Captain): "[Thoughts on the victory] I think it was that particular over from Enamul. There were a few important moments early on as well. We took some early wickets, Ayub bowled brilliantly, and Rubel dismissed Uthappa. But the key moment was Enamul taking two wickets in that over. I think that really shifted the momentum in our favour.
[Thinking behind giving both seamers an extra over at the start] I think it was that particular over from Anam. There were a few important moments early on as well. We took some early wickets, Wahib bowled brilliantly, and Rubel dismissed Uthappa. But the key moment was Anam taking two wickets in that over. I think that really shifted the momentum in our favour.
[On defeating India Champions] Yeah, it feels really good. I think we came very close in the last game but couldn't finish on the winning side. I'm very happy that we won this game, and we're looking forward to the next one."
Yuvraj Singh (India Champions Captain): "[On his thoughts about tonight's loss] I think we need to go and play some golf to get over that game! Credit to Bangladesh, though. They played really well, bowled in the right areas and made the ball swing. The good thing was that we showed a bit of fight towards the end. I think Piyush and Negi batted really well and helped us get to a decent total, which might prove useful in the end. But there are no excuses for playing bad cricket. At the end of the day, it's not acceptable.
[About bowling effort from tonight's match] Yeah, I think the bowlers stepped up well, especially after back-to-back games in tough weather conditions. But as I said, there's no point in the bowlers doing their job if the batters don't do theirs. From here, the only way is up, so hopefully we'll see what we can do in the next game.
[Regarding the promotion of Irfan Pathan to open the innings] It would have been tough for him to keep wickets and then come out to bat as well. As I said, the weather has been tough, and the players are getting older. Robin was cramping a bit, so he thought he'd go in a little later. I thought Irfan could get some time in the middle, but unfortunately, we ended up on the losing side, and the move didn't work out as we had hoped. But let's keep our hopes high and hopefully play some decent cricket.
[Plans going forward] Yeah, we've done that, especially in the WCL. We've done it over the last two years, and I guess that's how we know how to bounce back. As I said, we'll try our best. We have nothing to lose from here."
Enamul Haque Jnr (POTM): "[Summing up the emotions] Actually, we've already lost three games, so it was very important for us to win this match. Our boys are doing a great job, and we tried our best to win against a team like India, who have some legendary players. Alhamdulillah, we did a very good job, and we won the match.
[Feelings during the final over] We really believed we could do it. We believed in Abu Jayed because he's a great bowler, even though he's very young. We had faith that we could win this match.
[Importance of picking up regular wickets while defending such a low total] Actually, 142 isn't a winning total, but our bowling and fielding were very good. That's why, Alhamdulillah, we won this match.
[Plans for the remaining matches] South Africa are a very good team, but now our boys are confident after winning this match. Alhamdulillah, hopefully, we can do something good in the remaining games."
