Nigar Sultana Joty(Bangladesh Women Captain)- "First of all thanks to almighty. We planned to get over 140+ run on the board. I think it was the bowler and fielder's show. They executed the plans perfectly. Shorna is brilliant. She has done well from the age group level and we brought them up. Murshida was hanging there and I told him to continue and play at her own strength and she did well."
TazminBrits (South Africa Women Captain): "We wanted to win today. That was our aim. But Bangladesh played better and they were better than us. I am happy to get to 1,000 runs but this is a team game. I think we started well, but Bangladesh played better at crucial moments and deserves the win today. The youngsters did well and we need to learn from these situations as to how we can improve moving forward. Happy with the effort and hope to come back in Kimberley."
Shorna Akter (Player of the Match): "Thanks to Allah. I thank my captain for trusting me and deliver the goods and I am glad I did that."
Player of the Match: Shorna Akter.
Time for the post-match presentations.
20:44 IST and 17:14 Local Time | A 16-year old girl from Dhaka has done it for her country. The Proteas got struck in her spin-web and had no answer to that. She bowled one of the finest spells in the history of Bangladesh Women's cricket history to ensure her team starts with a win over the mighty proteas.
After coming to bat first, winning the toss, Bangladesh Women started steadily. Their opener Murshida Khatun hit the boundaries on the loose balls. Shamima Sultana also contributed with her run-a-ball 24 run knock. In the middle, Sobhana Mostary played a 16 run knock batting at number 3. After that, it was all down to Nigar Sultana Joty and Murshida Khatun. The duo registered a 62 run partnership of 43 balls to help their team to finish on 149. Murshida finished on 62 and Sobhana scored an unbeaten 34.
Coming to chase the 150 run target, Protea side started well as Anneke Bosch and Tazmin Brits started off well with a partnership of 69 runs. After that they kept on losing wickets in the middle overs. Annerie Dercksen, Sune Luus struggled a lot and the asking rate climbed up to almost 10 run per over. Right at the moment, well set Anneke Bosch got out scoring 67 and that's where the hosts lost the game. Eventually, the hosts lost the game by 13 runs, finishing on 136 after 20 overs.
Shorna Akter was the star of the show and she did it beautifully with the ball to take her first fifer in the international women's T20. She was well supported by Nahida Akter, Fatima Khatun and Rabeya Khan who took a wicket each.
