And Australia Champions march into the playoffs, as their campaign is alive after a vital second-half surge. For England, the wait is not quite over - their fate now rests on the final league match between Bangladesh Champions and South Africa Champions. A Bangladesh victory by a sufficiently large margin could lift them above England in the points table, leaving the English side watching anxiously from the sidelines.
One team celebrates its passage - the other waits for the final numbers to settle the story. The league stage is nearly done, but there is still one last twist to come, so switch tabs, follow the fun, and join us for the final chapter.
What a night of power, panic and perseverance. Short lit the fuse, Wells supplied the late fireworks, and Moeen nearly turned defeat into one of the great escapes of the tournament. But Australia’s earlier runs proved just enough, and Coulter-Nile’s disciplined over arrived like a door slamming shut on England’s hopes.
David Warner (Australia Champions Captain): (On the team's batting performance) "I think the boys applied themselves very well. We know what Dunky and Short can do at the top of the order. They like to spread their arms, back themselves, and not worry too much about the game situation. They just focus on scoring and being proactive, and that's what they did. The cameo from Wells at the back end was fantastic as well.
(On Jonathan Wells' partnership with Nathan Coulter-Nile) Most definitely, that was important. Burns came off and was a bit disappointed with himself for not being able to get on with it. But Wells backed himself, hit the ball nice and cleanly, and cleared the ropes. That's a positive for us going into the next game as well.
(On the bowling performance) I was always concerned, especially when Moeen strikes the ball like that. They've got dangerous players in that team. I think George Bailey in South Africa should have a look at his old teammate, Ben Hilfenhaus. He's still in prime physical condition and taking wickets.
(On facing the West Indies in the semi-final) There's one thing you never do, and that's underestimate them. They've got some serious hitters who can hit sixes and fours. We're going to try to replicate the way we bowled against them in our first game. It's going to be a tough game. They'll be up for it, and we'll be up for it too."
Ravi Bopara (England Champions Captain): "[Did the last few overs while bowling cost them the game?] Yeah, it's T20 cricket. If you lose powerplay in both batting and bowler, you fall miles ahead. We got punished in the last few overs. They put way beyond the score we were expecting.
[Was it too much to do in the end?] We were always behind it. We tried to catch up in the second half. Moeen played really well. It's hard to micro-analyze in T20 cricket.
[How crucial were those runs from Moeen and Owais?] We always had that in mind, especially when we lost quick wickets in the chase. Our run rate hasn't changed much. The game is still going to happen and let's see whether we manage to qualify."
D'Arcy Short (Player of the Match): "[On his knock] It's good to get some runs and get us off to a good start.
[On his aggressive approach while batting] Pretty much that. See off a couple and go on from there.
[On the pitch and the conditions] Yeah, I think it's more about trusting my swing than anything. I haven't missed much this tournament.
[Do you think you missed out on hundred in this competition?] I don't think too much about that. Keep going hard and if it comes, it comes."
