That’s all we had from this enthralling contest at the North Sydney Oval. New Zealand’s fighting spirit almost scared the spine out of the home side. However, the Aussies are known to come back hard, rightly they did so, as their batting depth neutralised the White Ferns in North Sydney. Wait for a couple of days before we get to see if the neighbours produce a comeback on Aussie soil.
Thank you for tuning with us. For now, its Arijit Kundu bidding goodbye on behalf of co-commentator Akshay Bhide, scoring associate Manish Bishnoi, and statistician Aman. Stick around to this space for more cricketing extravaganza.

Sophie Molineux (Australia Women Captain): "(What are the things you'd like to work on ahead of Tuesday?) I thought New Zealand played really well. They had that huge partnership there that we just couldn't break. We'll go back to the drawing board and make sure we've got our plans right to be able to come here and break partnerships like that. I thought the batters at the top did a really good job taking the game on. There's probably a clump of wickets there that we can improve on.

(As I mentioned earlier, this crowd. It's good to have people out here at North Sydney Oval and they can do so for the next couple of nights on Tuesday and Thursday too?) Yeah, it's really exciting for us being able to come home and play in front of a packed North Sydney crowd. It's pretty iconic. So, yeah, hopefully the next couple of games are going to be just as big if not bigger. Good to see the bodies firing for you and good to see you back in the side."
Amelia Kerr (New Zealand Women Captain): “[Disappointed with the result?] Yeah, disappointed to be on the losing side. But to think of the position they were in and we were just two wickets away from the win, nice to see the fight from the girls.

[On the partnership between Plimmer and Green] Maddy and Georgia were brilliant. I think the Aussies bowled well but to build that partnership, it was good. The way Moons (Mooney) and Pez (Perry) batted, it took the game away from us.

[On the wicket] The wicket showed that if you got it in the right areas with cross-seam and slower balls, you will get something. If you bowl in the right areas, you will get some chance."
Georgia Plimmer (Player of the Match): "[On her knock] It was a bit of tough shot for me. That partnership with Maddy and see her bat, it was good. We had talked with the girls how to play.

[On her partnership with Green] I guess I have known Maddy for a while now. She knows how to get the best out of me. We wanted to end on a few more on that wicket but happy to get that partnership.

[On playing here at this venue] I think it's great to have such a cool crowd. Just a nice vibe here at North Sydney Oval. Australia has done well to play in that way and bring in the crowd."
Player of the Match: Georgia Plimmer
Record Alert: Australia Women’s two-wicket win is their narrowest victory by wickets in WT20Is, surpassing their previous narrowest win by three wickets against India at Birmingham in 2022.
4:58 PM IST, 10:28 PM Local Time: Australia's batting depth flips the valiance of the White Ferns to help them take the early lead in the three-match series. A 86-run second-wicket stand between Ellyse Perry and Beth Mooney set the momentum for the chase before New Zealand creeped into the contest. The former scored a brilliant fifty but the middle and lower middle order struggled against the punching Kiwis.
Despite the required rate falling beneath run-a-ball with six overs left in the chase, New Zealand kept punching the opposition with wickets. Amelia Kerr's leadership helped the visitors four scalps between 15th and the 17th over. However, batting depth overpowered the relatively amateur New Zealand side as Kim Garth and Tahlia McGarth see the Aussies past the finishing line at the end.
