Well, that's all for today, folks! This is Anirudh Modi, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator AkshayaKrishna Polya and our scorer/analyst Raju Khairya. It was our pleasure to bring you this game LIVE! Stay Tuned for more super mornings with Super Smash! See you on the next one!
Dane Cleaver (Central Stags Captain): "Yeah, happy with the result. But I didn't think that it would come this way. They scored well. It was a massive target for us. We are quite fortunate to get these guys in. Getting a player of the high quality of Will Young is a blessing. We lost the services of Brucey (Tom Bruce), Rosco (Ross Taylor) and Doug Bracewell. But getting in some really good talents is nice to have. We have more things to improve on. We shall do it in the upcoming matches."
Robert O'Donnell (Auckland Aces Captain): "It is a deja vu. I think we can't really approach the game thinking rain will come. Some day it might be a 6,7 or even a 9-over game. We were a tad short of the total we needed to put in. Still, 190 was above par. We batted well and stitched some nice partnerships. William O'Donnell batted brilliantly. No one knew that he was going to target Toole there. He showed us in the Ford Trophy, and today, he did it again. We need to keep our shoulders high and continue to stick together. "
Will Young (Game Changer of the Match): "Yeah, as I said, it was good to be coming back here to play Super Smash. Kudos to the team management. Definitely, hitting six 6s was in my mind. It's a life time opportunity, and I tried to go for it. Louis Delport bowled well as he went short and cramped me for the room. We needed to stick to our basics. Happy that we won today. I will take five 6s and out in the same over for the moment."
So, in a match where there were raining sixes and boundaries we have arrived at a situation where the actual rain gods have forced the umpires to call off the game! As a result, THE CENTRAL STAGS WIN THIS GAME BY 29 RUNS VIA DLS!
Central Stags won the toss and elected to bowl first, but that decision backfired immediately. In what both teams quickly discovered that the pitch is a belter for batting. Briggs was the first one to take advantage as he scored a well paced 50 runs off 33 balls, while O'Donnell, Solia and Horne all contributed to take the Auckland score to 191/8 from their 20 overs!
Lennox and Randall were the pick of the bowlers in the first innings as both contributed with 3 wickets to each to restrict the Auckland total to under 200!
Come the chase, Auckland got off to a fiery start, dismissing Wiggins off the second delivery but little did they know, the reign of Young was about to begin. The young superstar carved apart the Auckland bowlers to score 67 runs off 27 balls, in a knock which included 7 sixes and 4 boundaries and a magical 7th over where he hit 5 sixes in 5 balls before being caught off the last delivery!
However, that was all he wrote for today as the rain came down and ensured no more play took place. Will Young's innings was the difference in the game and it deservedly awarded his team the victory in this rain curtailed encounter!
9:15 AM IST | That's it. The umpires and players shake hands.
Akshaya: If the match gets called off here, then Central Stags will be the winner as they are way infront of DLS par score.
9:08 AM IST | The umpires are having a discussion, and they call the two captains together.
9:01 AM IST | The rain has eased out. Scratch that... The rain is back.
