The West Indies had a clinical start to the T20 World Cup Super 8s, thrashing Zimbabwe comfortably by 107 runs. The commanding win not only stamped the West Indies' authority but also complicated the India qualification scenario for T20 World Cup semifinal.

Led by Suryakumar Yadav, India enjoyed an unbeaten run in the group stage before South Africa exposed multiple chinks in their armour in the Super 8s. The Men in Blue completely fell flat against a rampant Proteas outfit, as a massive 76-run defeat significantly dented their Net Run Rate.

West Indies claim top spot in group-1 after commanding win vs Zimbabwe

While the Indian team failed to live up to the hype, the West Indies steamrolled Zimbabwe on expected lines to kick off their Super 8 campaign. The Men in Maroon have been unstoppable, registering five consecutive victories in the tournament.

After defeating England, Italy, Scotland and Nepal convincingly, the Shai Hope-led team swatted aside Zimbabwe, registering a 107-run win in their first Super 8 match. Batting first, West Indies posted a mammoth total of 254 runs before restricting the Sikandar Raza-led outfit to 147, thus sending shivers down to the spines of their opponents.

Considering how they have performed so far, West Indies' power-packed batting unit and disciplined bowling attack present them as strong opponents for the Indian team, which has yet to look formidable across all fronts.

So, as the Men in Blue aim to bounce back, here we explain the India qualification scenario for T20 World Cup semifinal following West Indies' massive win over the Chevrons.

India's T20 World Cup semifinal qualification scenarios explained after WI Vs ZIM

1West Indies2+5.35
2South Africa2+3.8
3India0-3.8
4Zimbabwe0-5.35

(Group-1 Super 8 points table after WI Vs ZIM)

If we look at the current group-1 points table, the West Indies are placed first with an excellent NRR of +5.35. South Africa claim the second position with two points and an NRR of +3.800, while India reel at third in the standings.

The Men in Blue have their matches coming up against the West Indies and Zimbabwe. As their NRR has taken a drastic hit, they must win their remaining matches to stay alive in the competition.

Under Suryakumar Yadav's captaincy, the Indian team must ensure they defeat West Indies and the Chevrons by considerable margins to improve their NRR. However, as South Africa are set to play the Windies before the Indians take on Zimbabwe, India would like the Proteas to emerge victorious in that game.

If South Africa thump the Windies, the Indian team would need two wins to qualify for the T20 World Cup semifinal. On the contrary, if the West Indies stun an in-form Proteas side, their face-off against India will be reduced to a knockout fixture.

Conclusion

Thus, India must regroup and re-strategise after a crushing defeat against South Africa in the T20 World Cup. The Men in Blue must not lose hope, as they still have an opportunity to qualify for the semifinal of the tournament, provided they win their remaining games and the South Africans beat the West Indies on expected lines.
