The two-time T20 World Cup champions, England, are ready to take on Group C of the upcoming edition of the competition after a 3-0 series win against Sri Lanka away from home in the past week.
Heading into the Sri Lanka tour, the spirits were low around the English camp after their debacle in the Ashes, and they had not played a single white-ball match since November 1, 2025. However, despite a loss in the first ODI, England woke up and clinched all the remaining matches of the series.
Following captain Harry Brook's 136* (66) in the ODI series decider, the likes of Tom Banton, Jos Buttler and Sam Curran have stepped up with the bat in the T20Is to win the series convincingly. On the bowling front, the spinners, including the batters who can bowl, have been at the forefront in the series to give them immense confidence for the upcoming event.
In 2022, they ended their 12-year wait to win the tournament for the first time since 2010 and 2026 presents them another chance to get their hands on the title with a strong contingent at their disposal.
The following is their group stage schedule for the tournament:
- February 8: England vs Nepal, Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
- February 11: England vs West Indies, Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
- February 14: England vs Scotland, Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
- February 16: England vs Italy, Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

Strengths of England
1. Explosive batting line-up
Led by Jos Buttler and Phil Salt at the top of the batting order, the England batting is filled with ultra-aggressive batters, who have been in incredible touch in all T20 cricket since the start of 2025. Three of their top-6 have a strike rate of over 150, three strike at over 140 and only Jacob Bethell has a strike rate of 139.40 since January 2025.
| Player | Innings | Strike Rate |
| Harry Brook | 24 | 164.5 |
| Jos Buttler | 52 | 155.1 |
| Phil Salt | 55 | 151.8 |
| Will Jacks | 45 | 149.0 |
| Ben Duckett | 20 | 142.4 |
| Tom Banton | 54 | 142.1 |
| Jacob Bethell | 33 | 139.4 |

2. Packed with all-rounders
As it was evident in the final T20I of the Sri Lanka series, England has all-rounders in abundance in both pace and spin bowling departments. Sam Curran scored a crucial fifty in Pallekele, alongside three wickets in the series. He is assisted by Jamie Overton as the second pace-bowling all-rounder, who has 147 T20 wickets and a batting strike rate of 154.69.
In the spin-bowling all-rounders department, Liam Dawson, Jacob Bethell and Will Jacks are all crucial to their team's chances in the T20 World Cup in the sub-continent. Bethell and Jacks showed their bowling brilliance in Sri Lanka, while Dawson can also add crucial runs down the order, with close to 3000 T20 runs. They also have Rehan Ahmed as a backup option.
3. Quality spinners
Considering the tournament is being played in India and Sri Lanka, the likes of Adil Rashid and Liam Dawson will bowl in the crucial middle overs of the innings, and both are known for their economical bowling to build pressure. Veteran Rashid has 399 T20 wickets to his name, while Dawson also has 278 scalps to his name.
| Criterion | Liam Dawson | Adil Rashid |
| Innings | 48 | 37 |
| Wickets | 55 | 45 |
| Economy rate | 7.58 | 7.63 |
| Avg/SR | 21.1/16.7 | 22.8/17.9 |

Weaknesses of England
1. Inexperience in the sub-continent
England is a well-rounded unit, with all bases covered; however, apart from a few IPL regulars, including Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer, among the starters, not many players have played too much cricket in India, where they are scheduled to play their group stages. How the batting line-up, consisting of young Brook, Bethell and Banton, fares here would be crucial.
The takeaways from their 2025 series in India would help them with how they plan to bat, in what are expected to be slightly even conditions to play in.
2. Expensive death bowling
During England's tour of India in 2025, the visitors, who had Jofra Archer and Jamie Overton playing in the series, conceded at an economy rate of 9.50 in the five-match series. Considering their players have not played too much in India, it will be crucial how they end the innings with the ball.
Sam Curran, who wasn't a part of that squad, has also gone for an economy of 10.39 in overs 15-20 since January 2025.
| Criterion | Overs | Economy | Wickets |
| Jofra Archer | 25.1 | 10.81 | 11 |
| Jamie Overton | 29.4 | 10.15 | 17 |
| Sam Curran | 58.2 | 10.39 | 31 |
Opportunities for England
1. Win the unprecedented 3rd T20 World Cup
England has won the T20 World Cup in 2010 and 2022. When they won the second title in 2022, they became the second team after the West Indies to lift the trophy twice. Unfortunately, they were unable to achieve the same feat in 2024, when India joined these two teams in the exclusive list.
The 2026 edition presents England with a chance to win the trophy for the third time, which has never been achieved in the history of the T20 World Cups.
2. Stamp authority as a young captain for Harry Brook
Brook, who has faced a fair share of criticism for his off-field antics in recent times, could change the public perception towards him. Considering he has only captained them in 11 T20Is so far, he will have a chance to stun the critics and fans with his leadership, much like he did in Sri Lanka recently.
If they win the title, Brook will be among the top-5 youngest captains to win an ICC tournament after Kapil Dev, Stephen Fleming and MS Dhoni.
Threats to England
1. Untimely injuries
The leader of England's pace attack, Jofra Archer, is extremely crucial for them, considering the pace and x-factor that he brings to the game. However, the bowler is very prone to injuries, and a setback here could hurt them big time in the competition.
While Luke Wood is in good form, Archer is among the elite talents in world cricket, and they will want him fit in the competition. Additionally, he brings the experience of playing in India, which is important for this relatively young unit.
