From Mumbai Indians (MI) to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Joseph has represented three different franchises in the competition. However, one thing has remained consistent throughout: his inconsistency and erratic bowling.He has picked up 21 wickets at an average of 32.90 across 22 IPL innings, while conceding 9.55 runs per over. The numbers suggest that although wickets have come sporadically, Joseph has struggled to maintain consistency and control. Representing the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons, the Caribbean pacer is currently the second-highest wicket-taker in the competition.Joseph has picked up 14 wickets at an average of 17.14 and a strike rate of 11.14 across eight innings, including a four-wicket haul. Among bowlers who have bowled at least 15 overs, his strike rate is the second-best in the tournament, behind only Joshua James’ 8.18. He can extract movement with the new ball at good pace before transitioning to harder lengths as the innings progresses. With the pitches largely offering plenty for batters, Joseph has still found ways to consistently create dismissals without giving away too many runs outside the death overs.What’s worked for Alzarri Joseph?Joseph’s ability to hit hard and short lengths has come to the fore once again. Around 35.26% of his deliveries have been pitched between 8 and 10 metres, yielding four wickets at an average of 22 and an economy rate of 9.60. He has claimed another four wickets at 10.25 runs apiece from lengths shorter than 10 metres. Joseph has bowled 21.79% of his deliveries in this range while conceding just 7.24 runs per over in CPL 2026.More importantly, though, Joseph has shown greater awareness of how to adapt his lengths across different phases. In the powerplay, he has been willing to bowl fuller in an attempt to extract more movement from the new ball. He has shown that he can adjust his lengths according to the situation while still playing to his strengths.Once he gets into rhythm, his pace and bounce can dismantle batting line-ups, but in CPL 2026, he has also been more open to varying his approach rather than relying on one plan throughout. Those numbers have improved considerably this season, largely because of his greater willingness to attack with fuller lengths and give the new ball a chance to move.Why Joseph could be a part of IPL 2027?Alzarri Joseph has been unsold in the last couple of IPL auctions, but he could make a strong case for a return in 2027. His recent form, combined with his previous experience in the competition, gives him two qualities that IPL franchises tend to value. More importantly, several teams could be in the market for a quality overseas pacer, particularly one capable of playing the enforcer role in the middle overs.RCB, for instance, could need alternatives for Josh Hazlewood next season, with the Australian potentially unavailable for parts of the campaign due to his international commitments. Australia have a packed Test schedule and a World Cup later next year, and given Hazlewood’s injury history, they may be reluctant to let him play the entire IPL season.Nuwan Thushara, who also missed IPL 2026 through injury, has had his own fitness concerns and could be unavailable at various stages. Pat Cummins could be partially unavailable, while Brydon Carse and Eshan Malinga have also had injury concerns. SRH could therefore look to reshuffle their overseas contingent and strengthen their pace stocks.Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) could also use more quality pace options. His improved use of fuller lengths and greater adaptability in CPL 2026 suggest that he is addressing some of the concerns around his bowling.
