4:10 PM IST & Local Time: A dominant performance from Nepal in this warm-up fixture as they win by 6 wickets with 12 balls to spare.
Earlier in the day, Canada won the toss and opted to bat first, making a cautious start as Yuvraj Samra fell for 7 inside the powerplay with the score moving to 30/1 after six overs. Kanwarpal Tathgur and Navneet Dhaliwal then steadied the innings with a solid 63-run stand for the second wicket, but momentum dipped when both were dismissed in quick succession during the middle phase, while Nicholas Kirton’s cameo ended swiftly at 10 off 4 balls.
A strong late surge from Shreyas Movva (38*) and Jaskaran Singh Buttar (21) turned things around, their brisk 51-run partnership off just 24 deliveries pushing Canada to a competitive 161/6 from 20 overs. Sandeep Lamichhane (2/14) and Kushal Bhurtel (2/26) were the pick of the bowlers for Nepal.
In reply, Nepal came out all guns blazing and got off to an absolute flyer in the chase. They raced to 75 runs by the end of the Powerplay, losing only Kushal Bhurtel, who was dismissed for 12 off 11 balls. Aasif Sheikh went hammer and tongs at the top, completely dominating the Powerplay, before being retired out after bringing up his fifty, finishing on a stunning 58 off 29 balls.
Solid contributions from the middle order as Sundeep Jora played a fluent knock of 44 off 30 balls, while Gulshan Jha remained unbeaten on 31 off 25 deliveries. Nepal crossed the line comfortably, winning by 6 wickets with 2 overs to spare and wrapped up a perfect warm-up phase by winning both their games here in Chennai.
