That marks the end of our coverage from this Super Six Group 1 fixture of ICC U-19 Men's Cricket World Cup 2026 between Afghanistan and Ireland. Afghanistan have completed a dominating victory over the Irish team and they have become the second team after Australia to qualify for the semi-finals.

For now, this is myself Saptak Sanyal signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Pritam Dey and the scorer/analyst of this match Yogesh Kumar. Good night!
Mahboob Khan (Afghanistan U-19 Captain): "Firstly I want to thank the almighty. I want to congratulate the team for the win. We are happy.

We knew that it was a crucial time and the partnership was much needed for our team. Two wickets went down quickly and I am glad to have a good partnership with Faisal. We stuck to the coaches plan. We stayed at the wicket and played according to the plan.

My head coach says that staying in the wicket will help you to get the runs. We are a very hardworking group. Our team is doing well in both batting and bowling. I hope we win in the semi-final."
Oliver Riley (Ireland U-19 Captain): "I think there's always some place where you can improve on. I think we have to give credit to the lad who got 163. Very impressive knock. It was a pretty chanceless knock on a decent wicket.

It was a very good wicket. A hint of swing early but then it became very good to bat on. The way they rotated the strike was the key. We could've used the short balls a bit more. But pretty good batting conditions out there.

I think a lot depends on timing. At certain stages of the tournament we dominated. We can take a lot of pride in that. I know our batters did well. Biggest takeaway is to play simple cricket irrespective of the opposition. Sticking to the basics is key. Bat well, execute the plans with the ball. Sticking to the game plan will take you further."
Faisal Shinozada (Player of the Match): "I am very grateful to perform in this match. A great innings for me. It was a plan from us and I just executed. The idea was to stay on the wicket and rotate the strike. Then we waited for the loose balls.

I just asked him to give the strike to me and rotate it consistently so that we can go for the loose balls. We worked as per the plan and focus on one ball at a time. Ball came straight to bat after a while and it became easy."

7:59 PM IST and 4:29 PM Local Time: Afghanistan have qualified for the U19 World Cup 2026 defeating Ireland U19 by a colossal margin of 191 runs. They have ruled the roost throughout the tournament and bowled them out for a paltry score of 124 runs.

Afghanistan opted to bat first and got a couple of early jolts as Osman Sadat and Khalid Ahmadzai got out for cheap scores. But Uzairullah Niazai gave good assistance to Faisal Shinozada and they added 75 runs for the 3rd wicket. Niazai got out for 26 runs.

Afghanistan never looked back in the game then. Faisal Shinozada was joined by his skipper Mahboob Khan and they started hitting the ball well. They played 157 balls together and scored 188 runs in their partnership. Mahboob Khan hit 5 fours and 2 sixes on his way to score 89 off 79 balls. Faisal Shinozada was the star of the batting show. He hit 18 boundaries and a maximum to score 163 off 142 balls and his innings created a difference between the two sides. He was instrumental in taking the team score to 315/7.

Skipper Oliver Riley and Reuben Wilson took three wickets each. Thomas Ford took a wicket.

Ireland came to chase the gargantuan target and never looked to be in a good position. They lost Freddie Ogilby for a seven-ball duck and later lost two more wickets inside the powerplay. James West and Adam Leckey got out for cheap scores and they were 26/3 from the first 10 overs.

Robert O'Brien got a good start and hit a couple of boundaries but got dismissed as run out. Sebastian Dijkstra got out for 8 and Ireland went into a shell after that. The sixth wicket partnership between Marko Bates and Reuben Wilson was off 55 from 77 balls but Wilson was the only aggressor there scoring 31 of 36 balls. Bates showed a futile resilience and took the game deep. He top scored for Ireland with his 34 but took 81 balls in the process which didn't help his team. Eventually they got bundled out for 124.

For Afghanistan U-19, Abdul Aziz finished with 3/21. Aqil Khan who was playing his first game of the tournament took 3 wickets for 36 runs. Nooristani Omarzai and Roohullah Arab took a wicket each.
