Milestone
Sri Lanka have outlasted South Africa to stay alive for another day in this tournament. They will be rooting for Ireland tomorrow to get a win over Afghanistan. That will propel them to the semifinals. However, a loss for Ireland will knock them out.

For South Africa, they had great individual performances as their captain said. However, they could not lift themselves up as a team!

On this note, I, Manan Mehta would like to sign off on behalf of my colleagues Dev Rajawat and Sahil Khan. B-byeee!!!
Vimath Dinsara (Sri Lanka U-19 Captain): â€śThank you very much. Yes, we are really pleased with the performance today. I think the best part was how well we bowled as a team.

Akash was outstanding - he took four wickets, and they were very crucial breakthroughs for us. Viran also played a brilliant innings and scored around 100, which set up the chase perfectly. Contributions like that make a big difference, and overall, it was a strong team effort.

It was a different ground for us compared to where we’ve been playing earlier, but I think we adapted well to the conditions. The team handled the surface and the situation very calmly, and we executed our plans nicely.

As for chasing the runs, we weren’t thinking too much about net run rate. Our focus was simply to play the game properly, stay composed, and get the win. We’re happy with the result today, and hopefully we can carry this momentum into the next round.”
Muhammed Bulbulia (South Africa U-19 Captain): "Yeah, we started really well with the bat. However, we lost wickets at the back end. Again, with the ball we could not put that pressure on. Yeah, it was a little bit of slowish track. We batted well but again at the backend we could not lift our game.

The tournament didn't go the way we planned it to go. However, there were a lot of individual performances from our side and hopefully many of them have great careers ahead. Yeah, I had a great experience as captain. Again, it was a disappointing tournament as a whole but a lot of positives to take out of it."
Viran Chamuditha (Player of the Match): "Thank you very much. The conditions were actually quite good for batting once you got through the first few overs. There was a bit of movement early on with the new ball, but I focused on playing straight and leaving well.

I think my consistency in shot selection has clicked. I’m clearer now about which balls to attack and which to respect. I’ve really enjoyed the true bounce of these pitches.

It is quite different! In Sri Lanka, the wickets tend to be a bit slower and offer more turn for the spinners as the game goes on. I had to adjust my back-foot play slightly, but once you adapt to the extra bounce, it’s actually a very good place to score runs.

I’m incredibly proud of the boys. It’s not just about individual hundreds; it’s about the way we are clicking as a unit. Our bowlers set the tone early, and the middle order finished things off clinically. We came here with a specific goal to qualify and remain dominant, and seeing everyone contribute toward that goal is the most satisfying part of today’s win."
Player of the Match: Viran Chamuditha
8:47 PM IST and 5:17 PM Local Time: Sri Lanka U-19 win by 5 Wickets! This has been a clinical chase from the Sri Lankan side. They showed great discipline with bat and ball. It was a day headlined by two beautiful centuries with the one that came in the chase from Viran Chamuditha outshining the first one.

South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first. Their openers started off brilliantly by collecting boundaries in the powerplay. The quicks were proving to be ineffective. However post the powerplay, the spinners came into action and slowed things up. The batting pair struggled to score and that is when Adnaan Lagadien perished for 46 with the scoring being 96. It felt like South Africa would get past 300 from the way they started.

However, the Sri Lankan spinners had different ideas, and they ran through the South African middle order especially Vigneshwaran Akash. His googly was something the batters just could not read. From one end the other opener Jorich van Schalkwyk stuck around solidly but kept losing partners. Jorich got to a well-deserved 100 as he showed great foot work against the turning ball. However, apart from Paul James' 37 no other middle order batter got past 20. South Africa were struggling at 221/7.

That is when a late flourish from Michael Kruiskamp made the side get past 260. The pick of the bowlers for the Sri Lankan side were Vigneshwaran Akash (4-46) and Chamika Heenatigala (1-29). It was a score around par so South Africa had a great chance of they struck with the new ball.

They did when the chase started and got the first Sri Lankan wicket with just 23 on the board. However, post that, they looked clueless. Viran Chamuditha and Senuja Wekunagoda stitched a mammoth 143 runs stand. They put Sri Lanka in the driver's seat. At that point, Senuja was dismissed for 48. However, Viran kept on going strong. He notched up his second 100 of this CWC.

He found some good support from Vimath Dinsara. Sri Lanka lost a couple of wickets in quick succession but the damage was already done from the top order. All rounder Chamika Heenatigala and Dulnith Sigera took the team across the finish line. The pick of the bowlers for the South African side was Corne Botha with 2-37. Sri Lanka at the end of the day batted with much more clarity and control. That is what came in handy on a decent surface here in Bulawayo.

4 FOUR! DONE AND DUSTED!!! Much fuller and outside off. Chamika stays leg side of the ball, extends his hands, and lofts it to the left of the bowler for a boundary. SRI LANKA U-19 HAVE DEFEATED SOUTH AFRICA U-19 BY 5 WICKETS BY 24 BALLS!!!

1 Back of a length and outside off, dabbed it down to cover point off the back foot for a single.
