That's it from our coverage of this U19 World Cup fixture. This is Mohammad Anab signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Arjun Bhalla and our scorer/analyst Asraj Khan. Cheers.
Thomas Rew (England U19 Captain): "(On the win) Yeah, definitely. I think that was a special innings from Ben Mayes to be able to watch. It was unbelievable. And then the partnership with Joseph Moores—special as well. So yeah, really happy for both of them.

(On setting targets while batting) We don’t really like to set too many targets. I think we just go out there, bat, and see where we get to at the end of the day. Once Mayes gets going, he’s happy to carry on at the same tempo, targeting the short boundaries as he did. It was unbelievable.

(On managing bowlers) Yeah, definitely. A big thing for us is bowling in short spells—nice, short, and sweet. That saves energy and means we always have a few more overs for the back end, especially at the death. We’ve got so many good bowlers I can turn to whenever, and they’re always ready. It’s a great resource to have.

(On Super Six stage) Yeah, we played India down there [in Bulawayo], so we’ve had a bit of practice. We’ll go down a couple of days early, get a few nets in and get used to the conditions. Hopefully, we can keep taking this momentum into the Super Sixes and see how far we can go."
Thomas Knight (Scotland U19 Captain): "Obviously, it was a disappointing day. We missed the mark with the ball and on the field a couple of times, and then they just punished us. It was an understanding innings from Ben Mayes, it was unbelievable. And with the bat, we were left to do a lot to do there. Some more runs there could have boosted our net run rate, but we missed that too. It was a disappointing day afterall.

(On Mayes and Moores' knocks) It was a nightmare out there. It was understanding knocks there by Mayes and Moores. All we were trying to do was to bowl our best balls as often as we could, but we couldn't do that as often; and they punished us whenever we missed it. It was a learning curve today for us.

(On their qualification and where did they lack) We still have an opportunity. There were come good spells with the ball and some good junctures with the bat. Hopefully, we can get better than this."
Ben Mayes (POTM): "Yeah, I think, as positive as I am, I didn't expect (to be) this morning. Not many other people did. You know, it's good. Moores helped me a lot today; he was brilliantly up top there. A few others also chipped in, like Tom Rew and Morgan, in the end. It was an all-round performance from the team.

(On what drills he has been doing heading into this tournament) I have just tried to train as much as I could, starting over the Christmas holiday, as I was away from my school. I didn't want to make any excuses as this is the biggest tournament, I have ever played. The sessions back home were very helpful, as the old lads back in Hampshire also helped me a lt."
Player of the Match: Ben Mayes
8:28 PM IST, 4:58 PM Local Time: Ram Sharma edges it behind and with this, Scotland U19 are all out for 152 inside 45 overs. England U19 have registered a victory by a humongous margin of 252 runs. The English side have now registered their third victory on the trot and are now at the top of the Group C points table.

Electing to bowl first after winning the toss, Scotland’s bowlers were left searching for answers as England’s top order and middle lineup combined power with precision on the flat Harare pitch. The Scottish attack found little respite as runs flowed freely throughout the innings.

England’s innings was highlighted by a brilliant knock from Ben Mayes, who dominated proceedings with a powerful and controlled innings, showcasing both timing and big-hitting ability. Mayes got dismissed after scoring a career-best 191 off just 117 balls, peppered with boundaries and maximums to frustrate every Scottish bowler. It became the best-ever score made by an English batter in the Youth ODIs.

He was well supported by Joseph Moores (81), while Caleb Falconer (32) and Thomas Rew (22) provided useful contributions to maintain momentum through the middle overs. Moores and Mayes had a record-breaking stand of 188 runs for the second wicket.

England surged past 300 with ease before a late onslaught carried them beyond the 400-run mark — a remarkable achievement in Under-19 World Cup history. The side ended with a score of 404/6.

Scotland’s bowlers toiled hard but struggled to make inroads. Jake Woodhouse picked up three wickets while Finlay Jones managed to claim a couple of wickets, but England’s relentless batting ensured the scoreboard pressure became overwhelming.

Chasing a daunting target of 405, Scotland were immediately put on the back foot by a disciplined England bowling unit. Wickets fell at regular intervals as the required run rate climbed rapidly, leaving Scotland reeling and unable to mount any sustained resistance.

The side never went for the gigantic target and focused on playing out their quota of 50 overs. The opening pair of skipper Thomas Knight and Theo Robinson added 38 runs for the first wicket. However, after Robinson's dismissal, things started going haywire for Scotland. They collapsed badly and went from 38/0 to 87/7.

The Scottish lower order showed some defiance. The eighth wicket stand between Finlay Carter and Jake Woodhouse added 41 runs in 10 overs. However, it wasn't enough and later, Scotland bundled out for 152 in 44.5 overs. The top scorer for the side was Carter, who made 34 off 55 balls.

For England, Caleb Falconer picked up three wickets while Manny Lumsden and Ralphie Albert took two wickets each.

England now move to Bulawayo for the Super Six stage, while Scotland's progress depends upon the result of tomorrow's game between Zimbabwe U19 vs Pakistan U19.

44.5 C Falconer to R Sharma
W GONEE! Ram Sharma departs. A brilliant delivery from Falconer, and the batter nicks it behind to the keeper. Back of a length close to the off-stump. It tails away from the left-handed very late. Sharma stands behind the line and pokes at it. He gets a thin outside edge down to the keeper. Scotland U19 have been toppled for 152 runs, as England win this Group C clash by 252 runs!
