Milestone
What a performance we witnessed from the Indian boys. Also, not to forget the remarkable collapse of Bangladesh's batting and handing out an 18-run victory (DLS method) to the Indian side.

That's it from our live coverage of this match. This is Mohammad Anab signing off on behalf of my colleagues Arjun Bhalla and Ghanendra Singh Thakur. Cheers!
Ayush Mhatre (India U19 Captain): "(On the first innings) Yeah, the way Kundu and Vaibhav batted was really brilliant. The wicket was difficult to bat on, so the way they handled the situation was excellent. Even Kanishk batted really well towards the end of the innings. Kundu and Vaibhav showed great batsmanship.

(On the pitch) There was a little bit of dampness on the wicket, and the ball was sticking a bit when it was bowled from a back-of-a-length area. That made batting difficult, but again, the way they batted was really brilliant.

(On defending the target) Yeah, we had a simple discussion in the dressing room. There was some momentum with Bangladesh, but the break came at the right time for us. We believed in ourselves that we could defend this target because of how the wicket was playing. The boys were confident that we could defend this total.

(On asking Vihaan Malhotra to bowl) Because the batter doesn’t expect a part-timer to bowl in that situation. It’s very difficult to face a part-timer at that stage, especially because he bowls really good yorkers as well. I was very confident in his skills.

(On his cap being signed by teammates) It’s for my motivation — that in any situation, I can handle my team and take initiative on the field. That’s why it’s just for my motivation."
Azizul Hakim (Bangladesh U19 Captain): "(On the loss) Yes, obviously, it was really disappointing for us. There were a few missed stumpings and some catches that went down, and that made a big difference. When you know a chance is coming, you have to take it. For me, it’s about how we handle that. It’s a learning for us — we win and lose, but we learn from it.

(On Al Fahad taking a fiver) Yes, obviously, I’m very proud of him. That’s his character and his contribution to the team. Now we’re just looking ahead to the next match.

(On his dismissal) When I took the shot, I took responsibility for it. It was a learning moment for me. That’s the beauty of cricket — you learn from these situations. I gave my best, but unfortunately, they took the catch.

(On the nail-biting thriller) Obviously, whenever we play against India, it’s a high-intensity match. India is a very good team in this tournament. Inshallah, we’ll take the learning from this game."
Vihaan Malhotra (POTM): "Obviously, it was a nerve-breaker match. In the end, we won, that's good for us. The discussion was simple, that we can defend the tall [from Bangladesh at 90/2]. We wanted to get back to the field, play the match, and win it.

[On his spell of 4/14] Actually, we wanted to go after us in the end, so I backed myself and my bowling. Nothing, I backed my skills and mixed my yorker well.

Playing a game like this is always a great opportunity. We play this game for such moments."

9:58 PM IST, 6:28 PM Local Time: What a grab by Vihaan Malhotra in the deep to finish things off. He has been an absolute star in the latter stage of this game. India U19 win this rain-affected game by 18 runs (DLS method). They win their second match of this U19 World Cup. Bangladesh U19 players must be holding their heads thinking how they have lost after dominating the Indian team for the majority of the game.

After winning the toss, Bangladesh opted to bowl on a surface that had visible dampness and offered assistance to bowlers. Their decision was justified early as India lost wickets in quick succession, struggling to come to terms with a pitch where the ball held up and gripped from a back-of-a-length area.

Just when Bangladesh seemed to be on top, India found stability through a composed partnership between Abhigyan Kundu (80) and Vaibhav Suryavanshi (72). Batting with maturity beyond their years, the duo absorbed pressure, played the conditions intelligently, and rebuilt the innings with a blend of patience and timely strokeplay. Their effort laid the foundation for a competitive total. Late contributions from Kanishk Chouhan (28) further strengthened India’s innings, helping them reach a fighting score despite regular challenges from the bowlers.

Due to a rain interruption during their innings, the match was initially reduced to 49 overs per side and India U19 got all for 238 in 48.4 overs.

For Bangladesh, seamer Al Fahad was the standout performer with the ball, claiming a five-wicket haul. He bowled with discipline and control, consistently troubling the batters and keeping Bangladesh firmly in the contest.

Chasing the total, Bangladesh lost their first wicket in the first over itself. However, from there, Rifat Beg (37) and skipper Azizul Hakim (51) added 56 runs for the second wicket. Even after Beg's dismissal, Bangladesh were going well and kept the required run-rate in check.

The side was at 90/2 in 17.2 overs when another rain interruption came in and players had to be off the field for a long while. After the rain delay, the target was revised to 165 runs in 29 overs. However, no one knew that Bangladesh batters would start falling like nine pins from this position. Crucial moments swung the game back towards India. Missed chances in the field earlier in the day came back to haunt Bangladesh, while the Indian bowlers tightened their lines as pressure mounted.

Mhatre brought in part-time spinner Vihaan Malhotra into the attack, and that proved to be a magical decision. Malhotra bowled four overs and took 4/14. Bangladesh slumped from 106/2 to 146/10 and gave India U19 a win by 18 runs (DLS method).

Out of the last seven batters, five of them were dismissed for a single-digit score. Skipper Hakim got holed out on a juicy full-toss even after playing 70-odd deliveries.

Some excellent fielding by the Indian players turned the tables and gave them their second win on the trot in the U19 WC 2026. They will now face New Zealand U19 on January 24 in their last group game.

W GONEEEE!!!!!! India have sealed the deal there. What a turnaround it has been from the Boys in Blue. They have been simply brilliant with the ball since the rain break. Henil gets the final wicket of the innings. Much slower there. Full and outside off. Emmon backs away and goes over the bowler's head, but it didn't have enough legs to travel. It lands straight into Malhotra's palm, who is stationed at long-on. India U19 have beaten Bangladesh U19 by 18 runs on the DLS method. The Boys in Blue make two in two in this U19 World Cup 2026!!!!
