Rangpur bowled their hearts out and nearly pulled off a heist, but low totals leave no margin for error. Titans held their nerve when it mattered most. Sylhet Titans win the Eliminator by 3 wickets on the last ball. High drama. Higher heartbeat. They advance to Qualifier 2.
Until then, I am Dev Rajawat, signing off, along with my co-commentator, Manan Mehta, and scorer Raju Khariya. That’s it from our side. Thanks for joining. But cricket doesn’t sleep. Plenty is happening around the world. Switch tabs, follow the fun. Goodbye from this tab! TAKE CARE! BREATHE AND SMILE! CIAO!
Mehidy Hasan Miraz (Sylhet Titans Captain): "It was an excellent match. The way Woakes batted was superb. Difficult for him as this is his first game in the BPL. However, he was determined and the aggression was there and he wanted to do it for the team. I would like to thank our advisor who advised us to get Woakes and Billings into the side. I had told him, I need two really good overseas players.
Khaled was superb today with the ball. He was ready to go, and you could see the way he delivered. I backed my boys because I always believe anything can happen in cricket. Yes, the energy is there for the next match. We were part of a superb game, and the spirits are very high. We will be looking forward to it."
Khaled Ahmed (Player of the Match): “Even with swing on offer, you still have to pitch the ball in the right areas to take wickets. When Chris spoke to me about the conditions, he mentioned that the ball was moving, so my focus was simply to maintain a good, consistent length and let the swing do the rest. Alhamdulillah, it worked out.
The wicketkeeping was outstanding as well - absolutely brilliant behind the stumps. He’s one of our best keepers now. He actually started as a batter, but he’s developed into a very reliable wicketkeeper for us.
Personally, this performance means a lot to me. I had been rested for the previous three matches, but one of our coaches told me to stay ready because I might play in a crucial game like the qualifier. I was mentally prepared for that responsibility, and that helped me when the opportunity came.
Having a legendary bowler around the team also makes a big difference - you learn so much just by watching and listening. That guidance really helped set the template for us. So, to take 4 for 14 in such an important eliminator is very special. I’m grateful and proud of how it turned out.”
PLAYER OF THE MATCH: KHALED AHMED
Litton Das (Rangpur Riders Captain): "That is cricket for you. Sometimes you do not execute that well. But one thing I must say. This is not a good wicket to play T20 cricket on. Especially the Eliminator. Only the bowlers have had a say and the batters have nothing to say out here. Yes, maybe if Mahmudullah and Khushdil batted for longer, we would have got to 140. However, I must say this was not an ideal wicket. Yes, in hindsight we could have done many things differently. Maybe our fielding. We gave away too many loose runs away. Maybe next season we'll be better."
Time for the Post-Match Presentations...
4:15 PM IST, 4:45 PM LOCAL TIME: Sometimes the ball decides before the bat does, and today, it spoke in Sylhet’s accent. What did this eliminator really come down to? Bowling, nerves, and one last swing of the bat. The Titans strangled Rangpur to 111/9, led by Khaled Ahmed’s 4/14 and Woakes' 2/15. The Riders then fought back brilliantly with the ball, but Chris Woakes smoked a six off the final delivery to take Sylhet to 112/7 and a thrilling 3-wicket win. Tight runs. Tighter pressure. T20 drama at its loudest.
How did the chase begin in the Powerplay? Cautious… then chaotic. Sylhet were 39/2 in six overs, losing Tawfique on the first ball (0.4) to Mustafizur and Emon for 18 in 5.3 to Al Islam. Yet the run rate stayed healthy at 6.5, helped by boundaries from Ariful. Rangpur struck again in the seventh over - Ariful fell at 40/3, and suddenly the chase felt fragile.
What happened during the middle phase? Grind, not glamour. By the first timeout, Sylhet were 47/4 in nine overs, staring at a stiff task. Billings (29 off 40) and Mehidy (18 off 23) then stitched a 50-run fifth-wicket stand in 53 balls, steadying the ship to 85/4 at 16 overs. Rangpur’s spin, especially Khushdil (1/21) - kept things tight, but couldn’t break the stand early enough.
The death overs? In every ball. Mehidy was stumped at 94/5 in 16.6, then Billings fell at 97/6 in 18.1 to Mustafizur. Sylhet needed 15 off 12 with the tail in. Moeen went at 105/7 in 19.4, and the equation became 9 off the last over, with an extra fielder inside the circle due to Rangpur’s slow over-rate.
How did the last over unfold? Theatre. Tension. Triumph. Singles kept the scoreboard ticking, but pressure built. With 6 needed off the final ball, Woakes cleared the ropes - a clean six - to finish 10 off 4* and seal victory at 112/7 in 20 overs. CRR 5.60, but courage is higher.
Earlier, how did Rangpur’s first innings shape this game? By being strangled early. They were 29/3 in the Powerplay, losing Malan, Hridoy, and Litton cheaply. Only Mahmudullah (33) and Khushdil (30) gave resistance, taking them to 50 in 8.5 overs, but wickets kept falling - 94/6 at the second timeout (15.5).
Titans’ bowling was surgical - Khaled 4/14, Woakes 2/15, Nasum 2/12. Rangpur crawled to 111/9 - a defendable score on a gripping surface, but not commanding.

6 SIXXXX!!! Folks this is taken out from one of the fantasy books! These kinds of scripts cannot be written! Chris Woakes lands a few days before this game. These conditions are foreign to him. Mind you! However, the grit is very much there inside him and the overseas pro comes up with a miracle! Coming back to the ball. Full ball outside off stump, Woakes swings hard at it and nails the ball over extra cover for six. Probably the toughest area to hit a six at. He raises his arms aloft in celebration. The Titans run inside the ground and crowd their English hero in celebration! Tears and shock in the Rangpur Riders change room. Faheem Ashraf was phenomenal against the left-handed Moeen but missed his mark by a few inches against the right-handed Woakes. Just shows us how our game is one of fine margins. The Sylhet Titans win by 3 wickets and move to Qualifier 2!
