An excellent game of cricket was witnessed tonight. Both teams gave their 100% and took the match into the Super Over, a first of the season. However, only one team could have won and it was the Rajshahi Warriors who turned out to be victorious. Anyway, it's been a long BPL day today. This is Mohammad Anab signing off on behalf of my colleagues Deepak Prakash and Sachin Yadav. Cheers.
Najmul Hossain Shanto (Rajshahi Warriors Captain): "Yeah, I’m very happy with the way we finished the game. We showed a lot of character today, so I’m really pleased. They batted brilliantly according to the situation, but in cricket, anything can happen. We just believed in ourselves, stuck to the process, and in the end, we won the game. We’re happy because we’ve won a few matches, but if you look at our batting, we haven’t been consistent, and that’s an area we need to improve going forward.
(On Ripon Mondol) He’s been outstanding. If you look at the Under-23 Emerging tournament, he’s been bowling really well, and he’s worked extremely hard off the field. That shows his character. The best thing is how calm and confident he is when he goes out to bowl those crucial overs. That’s exactly the kind of character we want — as a captain and as a coach — and I’m really happy with the way he bowled."
Ripon Mondol (POTM): "Very much thanks to Shanto Bhai and Mushifqur Bhai because they trust me. They just said that if I am able to execute my plans, then nobody can hit me. I really enjoy bowling in the death overs. I tried to perfect my yorkers and my death bowling at the Asia Cup and tonight, they came off very well. Very happy with the support from the high-performance coaches. Corey Collymore and others work very hard on me."
Player of the Match: Ripon Mondol
Time for post-match presentations...
Nurul Hasan (Rangpur Riders Captain): "Oh, definitely. I think it was a really good game, but obviously we’re disappointed. We made a few mistakes out there and need to come back stronger. In the last few overs, we lost too many wickets, and that cost us."
9:54 PM IST, 10:24 PM Local Time: Rajshahi Warriors win in the Super Over. They register their third win of the season and move to the top of the points table. Meanwhile, the Rangpur Riders have registered their first defeat of the season.
Earlier in the game, Rajshahi Warriors posted 159 for 8 after being put in to bat. The innings was built around a composed middle-order effort after early wickets slowed their progress. Despite a late push, Rajshahi fell just short of a truly imposing total on a surface that offered value for stroke play.
Sahibzada Farhan made a brilliant 65 off 46 balls. Meanwhile, skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto scored 41 off 30 balls. The duo compiled a 93-run partnership for the second wicket but Warriors couldn't take their score to around 180 as Riders pace bowlers like Mustafizur Rahman and Faheem Ashraf bowled very well in the death.
In reply, Riders lost their opener Litton Das for 16. But after that, things looked quite easy for them. Dawid Malan (63) and Towhid Hridoy (53) had a 100-run stand for the second wicket. They kept the required run rate in check. Malan struggled initially to find the middle of his bat but then started ticking the scoreboard and went onto score his 10th BPL fifty.
However, things went haywire in the last five overs when Riders needed only 38 from 30 balls. They kept on losing wickets. Still, till the final over, things were under their control. The side required only seven runs off the final over. However, Ripon Mondol had other plans and bowled a brilliant one. A run-out on the last delivery meant that Riders' score ended at 159/6 and the match has been tied and will go down to the Super Over. The first one of the season.
In the Super Over, again Mondol showed his class and didn't allow Riders batters, namely Kyle Mayers, Khushdil Shah and Towhid Hridoy, to hit even a single boundary in those six deliveries.
By the end of the first Super Over, Riders lost both their wickets and made only six runs. In reply, Tanzid Hasan Sakib struck two boundaries against Fizz and chased down the Super Over target in three balls.
Riders coach Mickey Arthur must be extremely disappointed with his players as they needed only 38 runs from the final five overs with nine wickets in hand. Under no circumstances should they have taken the game to the final over.

4 FOUR!!! That's the end of the game. Tanzid hits a four and wins the match for his side in style. Short of length, angling to outside off. Moves across and then pulls it in front of the wicket. Takes the aerial route and the ball goes over the mid on fielder for a boundary. Warriors win the game in just three balls of the Super Over.
