That's all from today's double-header, folks! Dhaka Capitals start their campaign with a win. We hope you enjoyed our coverage. For now, it's me, Deepak Prakash, signing off on behalf of co-commentators Saptak Sanyal, Arjun Bhalla, and scorer/analyst Ghanendra Singh Thakur. CHEERS!
Mohammad Mithun (Dhaka Capitals Captain):"(On the sad demise of assistant coach Mahbub Ali Zaki) It is a really big loss for us because we treat him like our father. I feel it is a big loss. Definitely we plan every game for a win. I want to dedicate this victory to Zaki sir. Hopefully his soul rests in peace.
Today's wicket was a bit slow. Bowlers did really well. They bowled from stump to stump and good areas. Simple plan worked."
Imad Wasim (POTM): "First of all, our assistant coach, Zaki, was a wonderful person. He has passed away, and may the Almighty give patience to his loved ones. Personally, I have had a very tough four months, and this was my first game in nearly three months, so I wasn’t fully at my best. But I gave my best effort, and I’m happy it paid off.
Yes, it’s a great start. Early in the tournament, if you keep winning, you build momentum, and that makes you a formidable unit in the latter stages. We have a very good side. We’re still gelling, but hopefully we’ll continue to improve and do well."
Player of the Match: Imad Wasim
Time for the post-match presentations.
Najmul Hossain Shanto (Rajshahi Warriors Captain):"A very disappointing performance with the bat and that's why we lost the match. Obviously we want everyone to step up but in cricket anything can happen. I believe that they all tried and going forward I think everyone will show something special for the team.
I think if you look at our bowling, defending 133 we bowled 19 overs. It is a positive thing. I think we can continue with the way we bowled today."
4:04 PM IST, 4:34 PM Local Time: Sabbir Rahman seals the chase in style as Dhaka Capitals begin their campaign with a win, beating Rajshahi Warriors by five wickets with seven balls to spare.
Earlier, Rajshahi Warriors struggled to build any momentum and finished on a below-par 132/8 in their 20 overs as Dhaka Capitals produced a clinical bowling display. The tone was set right at the start when Imad Wasim dismissed Sahibzada Farhan off the very first ball, putting the Warriors on the back foot. Although Najmul Hossain Shanto (37) and Tanzid Hasan tried to steady the innings, regular wickets ensured Rajshahi never really recovered. Imad Wasim was the standout performer, returning to remove Yasir Ali and Shanto and finishing with impressive figures of 3/16, while Nasir Hossain chipped in with two wickets. Mohammad Mithun used his bowlers smartly through the middle overs, keeping the pressure firmly on the batters. Mushfiqur Rahim and Mohammad Nawaz attempted to rebuild, but they too fell as the squeeze tightened. The Capitals’ pacers — Salman Mirza, Ziaur Rahman Sharifi, and Mohammad Saifuddin — maintained disciplined lines and claimed a wicket each, ensuring Rajshahi were kept in check right through the innings. Despite several batters getting starts, including Rahim and Nawaz scoring in the 20s, the lack of big contributions meant the Warriors were restricted to 132/8. Chasing 133, Dhaka got off to a shaky start when Saif Hassan fell for just 1. Usman Khan looked positive during his 18 off 15 balls, but Mohammad Nawaz struck to keep Rajshahi in the contest. The innings was then anchored by Abdullah Al Mamun, who played a composed knock of 45 off 39 balls, striking four boundaries and a six to hold the chase together. Captain Mohammad Mithun added 12 before falling, while Nasir Hossain chipped in with a gritty 19 off 22 balls as the Capitals reached 98/5 in the 16th over, leaving the match delicately poised. From there, Shamim Hossain and Sabbir Rahman ensured there were no further hiccups. Shamim provided stability with 17* off 13, while Sabbir finished the chase in emphatic fashion with an unbeaten 21 off just 10 balls, including two sixes. For Rajshahi Warriors, Mohammad Nawaz was the standout bowler with 3 for 21, while Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Sandeep Lamichhane picked up a wicket each, but failed to defend the total.
