Harleen Deol (Player of the Match): “(On emotions after a see-saw 24 hours) It feels good. Happy for the team to get the first win.
(What were the emotions after getting retired out in the last game, and how did she cope?) Actually, yesterday also, I was batting well. You saw it tonight how Chloe can change the game. Chloe is someone who can hit big. It didn’t go our way yesterday.
(On her batting approach tonight) Nothing different. I just got little boundary balls. So that I could convert them into boundaries. It’s just your day.
(On how hard or easy it was about last night) Nothing. It’s normal preparation for me. I was batting well as well yesterday. No point stressing on it too much. First two games didn’t go my way. I figured out that you can’t be overhitting. It’s more about timing based.
(About partnership with Phoebe Litchfield) In the first innings, the wicket played a little slower. In the second innings, the wicket got better. We didn’t plan too many things. We just tried to hit and tried to enjoy it and have fun out there in the middle.
(Is this her best WPL knock?) This WPL, this is my best knock. When you have a score under your belt, you gain confidence. Even the 1st 2 games didn't go our way. I just tried to win games for my team and contribute."
Player of the Match: Harleen Deol
Meg Lanning (UP Warriorz Women Captain): “(Relief on winning the first game of the season) Yeah, I think so. Throughout the first three games, there were lots of positives. It was a good game and to bounce back after the loss yesterday, it was good to beat Mumbai who are a good side.
(On how these three defeats tested Lanning, who isn't used to it?) It’s a big learning curve for myself and the team included. As I said, we played good cricket but failed to nail for consistent times. There have been chats of what we want to do. The belief was there and confident was also there.
(About Harleen Deol) I had a quick chat with her (Harleen Deol). She took it yesterday really well. To come out tonight and play in that was was great. She made it look so easy and it gives her the confidence heading into the back end of the tournament.
(On bowling plans and getting out Harmanpreet Kaur) Sometimes, things work out. You hope they do. The bowlers did a fine job. We read the pitch very well. Restricting them to 160 was a fine job and the batters stepped up. You need that to give you the confidence. You may play good cricket but you want to win games to give that confidence."
Chloe Tryon (UP Warriorz): "We were talking about finishing in that over. Ball before that, I went for a six. But happy to get on board.
It was a great franchise (Mumbai Indians) to be a part of. A good game for us. We did well with the ball. We knew it will get dewy. Harleen played well and set the win for us.
It's going to stick to my bed tonight. I was happy to get that catch because Harmanpreet is a big wicket. Happy to get another one from Nat. Probably, my hand is burning a bit. I was actually anticipating the wrong way. I was happy that I got it right in the end and it stuck.
It is a special group. We didn't have enough runs yesterday. But we fought till the last over. We just talked about that one percenters. I'm happy that we stuck to our plans. Happy to see the openers set up in the powerplay and Harleen finishing things off.
For the first half of the competition, we are happy that we got on board. We play them again after a couple of days. Hopefully, we can carry it forward."
Harmanpreet Kaur (Mumbai Indians Women Captain): "I felt 180 was a par score over here. That was the total we were looking for. In the powerplay, we got to know that this was not an easy track to bat. We started off well in the powerplay and the Nat & Carey put us in a good position but credit goes to Harleen with the way she batted today.
Chasing is always better when there is dew. Today there was a lot of dew. We will comeback in the next game with a better approach.
(On the youngsters turning up with the ball) Yeah, it was a great opportunity for them to bowl a few overs for the team. I think they did a decent job as there was a lot of dew and the ball was not gripping well. I think we didn't have enough runs on the board. I think they bowled decently tonight.
(On Harleen Deol's performance) Yeah definitely. I think she has shown everyone what she brings to the team and why she is playing in the team. Tonight she batted beautifully. She is someone who always wants to do the best for the team. I was surprised to see her retired out in the last game. I think she came up with very positive mindset and I hope she will continue that."
10:48 PM IST, Local Time: That's it. UP Warriorz register their maiden win of Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026. All smiles in the UP camp as they beat defending champions Mumbai Indians by seven wickets to get on board. On the back of a fantastic knock from Harleen Deol, they chase down 162 with 11 balls to spare.
Chasing 162, the Warriorz openers Meg Lanning and Kiran Navgire went unscathed till the end of the powerplay, scoring 42 in it. Nat Sciver-Brunt dismissed both Lanning (25) and Navgire (10) in the seventh over. Phoebe Litchfield was joined by Harleen Deol who came out all guns blazing. She batted with intent and scored at a brisk rate after getting retired out yesterday.
Deol and Litchfield kept the defending champions at bay in the middle overs and kept the required run rate under control. Litchfield (25) got dismissed by Amelia Kerr yet again as the 73-run stand was broken in the 15th over. In walked Chloe Tryon at number five.
There was no stopping Deol as she brought up her fifty in 32 balls. She received good support from Tryon as both provided the finishing touches to the chase. Deol and Tryon remained unbeaten on 64 and 27 as the Warriorz chased down the total in 18.1 overs with seven wickets in hand. Sciver-Brunt (2/28) and Kerr (1/42) entered the wickets column for Mumbai Indians but they failed to defend the total.
Earlier, we were treated with a batting masterclass from Nat Sciver-Brunt. After being asked to bat first, Amanjot Kaur (38) and G Kamalini, the new openers of Mumbai Indians, found it hard. Both looked scratchy before falling in a quick succession after putting 43 for the first wicket.
Sciver-Brunt at three held the innings nicely and played some wonderful shots. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (16) fell cheaply. Nicola Carey joined Sciver-Brunt and both provided a strong finish with an 85-run stand for the fourth wicket.
Sciver-Brunt scored 65 off 43 before falling in the final over. Carey remained unbeaten on 32 as Mumbai Indians finished their innings on 161/5. For the Warriorz, Shikha Pandey (1/25) and Sophie Ecclestone (1/26) bowled economical spells, picking up a wicket each. In reply, Harleen played a match-winning knock of 64* after getting retired out yesterday, making a statement to everyone.
