This is Arjun Bhalla, signing off on behalf of Saipavan and Danish Elahi.
Deeaz Patro (Malaysia U19 Captain): "I think our batting had a tough start, and we found to rotate the strike in the middle phase. Bowlers made a comeback in the final phase. We have got a lot of learning from this tournament."
Aayan Misbah (POTM): “Thank you so much - this innings is really special for me. I hadn’t been getting big scores in the last few games, so this knock was very important to kickstart things. My parents are extremely happy, and I’m glad I could put up a performance for them as well. Once I got going, I received good support from my teammates, which helped me build the innings and make it count.”
Player of the Match: Ayaan Misbah
Time for the post-game presentation!
6.48 PM IST, 5.18 PM Local Time: The UAE U19 have beaten Malaysia U19 fair and square by a margin of 78 runs in this Group A clash. After Ayaan Misbah led the charge with the bat, Ali Asgar Shums and Bazil Asim ensured that UAE bowlers restricted the opposition to 220/9.
Yug Sharma and Naseem Khan started brilliantly with the new ball, which swung both ways, especially for the latter. Azib Wajid and Hairil Harisan had an opening stand that lasted for 43 runs, but Naseem ended it with Wajid’s wicket with a nick behind to the keeper. Shums came inside the first powerplay, and removed Hariz Afnan Sulhie in his second over of his spell.
In the middle phase, UAE U19 rotated their spinners and medium pacer, Bazil Asim, to perfection. As the tweakers attacked, the seamer kept a check on the run flow. Shums, along with Uddish Suri and Shalom D'Souza, bowled well in tandem as they shared four wickets during the 24 overs of spin. Apart from that, Bazil Asim was able to take three wickets in total, including two wickets in a solitary over in the death.
Bahrin fought like a lone warrior, but he was sent back on 49 by D’Souza. Later, Muhammad Aalif Bahrin scored a fiery half-century, but by the time that knock came, the game was almost over for the Malaysian unit.
Earlier in the day, Aayan Misbah dug in and scored a daddy hundred - 163 off 153 balls. The UAE opener played one of the finest knocks of the tournament, but Yayin Kiran Rai (44), Rayan Khan (48) and Prithvi Madhu (20) aided him really well. As a result, they notched up 298/7.
Stay put for the post-game presentation!
