If we go back 4-5 months, Nepal definitelyran riot against the West Indies, winning the three-match T20I series in the UAE 2-1. But it was a second-string Windies team. This is a completely different outfit. The two teams will meet once again in the 25th match of the ongoing T20 World Cup at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, on Sunday (February 15).
The Shai Hope-led Men in Maroon is currently dominating the show, with back-to-back cracking wins against Scotland and England, and is top of the Group C points table with four points. A win in this game will put the Caribbean side on the brink of Super 8 qualification.
On the other hand, Nepal had a contrasting start. They nearly pulled off an upset against England before receiving a ten-wicket drubbing from the newbies, Italy. They have to win this game to stay alive in the competition by the barest of margins.
Despite early jitters, the West Indies managed to post 196/6 versus England, thanks to a thrilling 76* off 42 from Sherfane Rutherford. Hope and Brandon King are yet to fire in this WC, while Shimron Hetmyer and Roston Chase are in good form, but failed to convert in the last game. Rutherford has been in a purple patch. Rovman Powell hasn't yet turned up in his full tilt, while Jason Holder's long levers have definitely come alive.
However, Holder with the ball is yet to find its groove. Shamar Joseph has executed his plan to perfection. It all depends on the spin trio of Akeal Hosein, Chase and Gudakesh Motie. These three kept a stranglehold on England and busted them.
Speaking of Nepal, they came so close to glory against the Harry Brook-led unit at the same venue. Had they won that thriller, the story would have completely different, not only for Nepal, but also for the group. They were found napping against Italy as the European nation brushed them aside without breaking a sweat. It will be hard for the Asian team to bounce back, but the Rohit Paudel-led set-up will definitely take confidence from that series win against the Windies.
Can Nepal pull off an upset and open their winning account in this T20 World Cup, or will the West Indies make it three in three? To find out, join us at 10 AM IST and Local Time on Sunday for its live coverage!
