It will be a do-or-die fixture for USA when they meet Netherlands in a Group A clash of the T20 World Cup 2026 in Chennai on Friday evening.

After losing both their games so far, USA has to win this game at any cost if they want to stay alive in the race for the Super 8 qualification.

The American side gave a serious scare to defending champions India in their first game of the WC. However, due to Suryakumar Yadav's extraordinary knock and some solid bowling by Indian bowlers, USA lost the game by 29 runs.

But the USA failed to put Pakistan in real trouble and allowed the subcontinent nation to take its revenge for the 2024 T20 WC defeat. Batting first, Pakistan went on to amass a total of 190/9. Opening batter Sahibzada Farhan scored 73 off 41 balls. Shadab Khan hit 30 off just 12 balls in the death overs to take Pakistan's total to 190. USA seamer Shadley van Schalkwyk impressed with his bowling and took four wickets.

In reply, USA managed only 158/8 in their 20 overs. Shayan Jahangir (49) and Shubham Ranjane (51) impressed with the bat but the rest of the batters failed to make an impact. In the end, USA lost by 32 runs. Ranjane has a minor knee injury and it remains to be seen whether he can get back to full fitness by Friday.

Pacer Jasdeep Singh has already been ruled out of the World Cup due to a shoulder injury and Ehsan Adil, his replacement, was fielded in the previous game. Frontline pacer Ali Khan is also injured and he will automatically come into the playing XI if he regains fitness.

On the other hand, Netherlands arrive into this fixture more confident. After losing out in a nail-biting encounter against Pakistan in the opening match of the WC, Netherlands registered a victory against Namibia by seven wickets. Bowling first, Netherlands restricted Namibia to 156/8. Bas de Leede and Logan van Beek picked up two wickets each. In reply, the Dutch chased their target down in 18 overs, thanks to an unbeaten 72 off 48 balls from de Leede.

Notably, Netherlands have to win all their remaining games if they want to get a confirmed berth in the Super 8 without having to depend on the net run rate and results of the other games of their group. However, history is on the Netherlands' side as they have beaten USA in all three T20Is they have played against each other.

Who will win this game at Chepauk? Join us at 6 PM IST & local time on Friday for the live coverage.
