A clinical performance from Sri Lanka sees them grab their second win of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. They will be riding with confidence and will be eager to carry forward their good work when they face Australia next at the same venue. Oman, meanwhile, have now suffered two losses in a row and will have to get back to the drawing board quickly. They now face Ireland next on Saturday.

It’s time to wrap up our coverage of this game. The T20 World Cup action doesn’t stop though as Nepal are all set to take on USA in the city of dreams i.e. Mumbai. Do switch tabs to follow live-action. For now, this is Akshay Bhide, signing off, on behalf of my co-commentators Deepak Prakash, Dev Rajawat, scorer Bishal Mandal and statistician Aman. Bye bye.
Dasun Shanaka (Sri Lanka Captain): "Very much pleased with the way we batted today. We used the conditions really well. Pavan and Kusal Mendis, especially, they planned the innings very well. Myself and Kamindu ended the innings.

[On batting approach in the middle overs] It is the more of the way we want to go. We want to work on sweeps and reverse sweeps. We will play them in the future.

[Changes made after Hasaranga's injury] See, it's very hard to replace someone like Wanindu. This Dushan Hemantha, he has been in the side for a while. In the absence of Wanindu, he played a couple of games. I'm sure he will come good in the next games.

[Positives from this game?] The confidence with the batting especially. I mean batsmen taking it deep. It was a concern in the recent past. I'm happy with how Kusal Mendis batted. Each batsman is chipping in. Hopefully, Pathum Nissanka will also fire."
Jatinder Singh (Oman Captain): (On reflecting on performances and improvements from game to game) “I think we remained very positive after the first game, even though there wasn’t much we could take from it. Today, we tried to stay fully present and play in the moment. But Sri Lanka are a quality side - they had strong plans, managed to keep us quiet, and batted exceptionally well. Posting 225 on the board was always going to be a very challenging total.

(On adapting against strong opposition) The opposition only gets tougher in tournaments like this. At this level, there’s not always a great deal you can change technically in a short time. It’s more about patience, mental clarity, staying focused, and maintaining a positive approach. You can’t change what has already happened, but we’re staying positive and looking forward.

(On the challenge of experience and exposure) If you look at our squad, only about four or five players have featured in more than 40 T20 internationals. Most of the group is relatively young. Naturally, we lack the experience that many other teams have. The reality is that we don’t get regular exposure through franchise leagues or consistent fixtures against full-member nations in this format. We end up playing more 50-over cricket than T20s, so adapting quickly is essential.

(On learning and development) Our coaches and support staff are working extremely hard with every individual. They’re doing everything possible to help us improve and adjust, but some factors are beyond our control. Ultimately, the best way to gain experience is by playing more matches at this level.”
Pavan Rathnayake (POTM): "The wicket was very good, and I played my normal game. I enjoyed facing the spinners but always looked to rotate the strike. (On what he likes most, spin or pace?) I like both. The mood in the team is very good; everyone is supporting each other, and hopefully, we will perform well in the next game as well."

2:23 PM IST, Local Time: That’s it. Sri Lanka make it two in two in this edition of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. After defeating Ireland in their opening game, they carry forward the winning momentum and cruise past Oman today. Oman suffer a heavy 105-run loss and remain winless in this year’s competition.

It was always going to be a daunting task to chase 226 and Oman got off to a shaky start. They lost skipper Jatinder Singh (1), Aamir Kaleem (6) and Hammad Mirza (9) inside the first six overs. Mohammad Nadeem and Wasim Ali resurrected the innings with a 42-run stand for the fourth wicket.

The Lankans dented Oman’s progress by dismissing Wasim (27), Vinayak Shukla (1), Jiten Ramanandi (0) and Nadeem Khan (2) in a quick succession. Mohammad Nadeem scored a fighting fifty and remained unbeaten on 53 as Oman finished their innings on 120/9 to lose the game by 105 runs.

Dushmantha Chameera (2/19) and Maheesh Theekshana (2/11) picked up two wickets each for Sri Lanka. Dunith Wellalage (1/17), Dushan Hemantha (1/45) and Kamindu Mendis (1/10) grabbed a scalp each as they completed a dominant performance with the ball in hand.

Earlier, Sri Lanka were asked to bat first and they lost both their openers in Kamil Mishara (8) and Pathum Nissanka (13) inside the powerplay. Kusal Mendis along with Pavan Rathnayake steadied the ship for the Lankans with a solid 94-run stand. Rathnayake scored a quickfire 28-ball 60 before falling in the 14th over.

Skipper Dasun Shanaka came out all guns blazing and dealt in boundaries. He played some fantastic shots and raced to his fifty in just 19 balls, the fastest for Sri Lanka in T20Is. He holed out in the deep on 20-ball 50 in the penultimate over of the innings.

Kusal Mendis played a well-composed knock of 61 and a cameo from Kamindu Mendis (19* off 7) powered Sri Lanka to 225/5, their second-highest T20I total. Jiten Ramanandi (2/41) picked up two scalps for Oman. In reply, their batters faltered as only two of them managed to get to double digits as they lost the game by 105 runs.

Stick around for the post-match presentation.
