Statement made. Points banked. Confidence earned. Zimbabwe ticked every box - Powerplay dominance, middle-over squeeze, clinical chase. Oman will regroup, rethink, and rebuild. Zimbabwe move on knowing their systems work.

Until then, I am Dev Rajawat, signing off, along with my co-commentator, Darpan Tikiya, scorer Zeeshan Naiyer, and statistician Aman. Also, a special thanks to Mohammad Anab for helping out in between. That’s it from our side. Thanks for joining. But you don't have to go anywhere, as there is one more match scheduled in the T20 World Cup. Switch tabs, follow the fun. Goodbye from this tab! TAKE CARE! BREATHE AND SMILE! CIAO!
Sikandar Raza (Zimbabwe Captain): "I thought we bowled really well. We read the wicket well and executed our plans well. I think this is as clinical as we can be. Boundaries here and there and a few bad overs don’t really bother me. The plans we set, we executed. Even with the batting—yes, ideally you want to win by at least nine wickets, or hope the openers get a good start and just finish the game. But at a World Cup, in the first game, there are a few nerves. Taking everything into consideration, this is as clinical as we can be.

(Surprised by bouncy nature of the surface) No, we watched the game very closely. We came here yesterday as well, and I looked at the data and the history of this ground—the grass, what role it plays when there’s no grass, and so on. So the bounce wasn’t a factor. I knew we had two tall bowlers and that we would find bounce anyway. Once I saw that bounce, I was pretty happy because with two tall guys, and Brad as backup, everyone generates bounce. It’s tough for the batters.

(On managing bowlers) I had to watch Blessing’s workload because he’s coming back from a back injury. The way he was bowling, I wanted him to bowl three in the powerplay, which we did. But you also want to keep an over at the death in case it’s needed. I thought Brian Bennett and Wellington did a decent job in the middle as well. I was tempted with Blessing, so I used those three overs. Then I brought Richard on early, and when he came back around the 15th over, he got a wicket too. Every time I asked the boys to step up, they did really well—whether by taking wickets or just holding things down.

(On Brendan Taylor's injury) Yes, certainly. As soon as I saw that—because I’ve seen that picture far too many times—and once we made eye contact, I wanted him off. This has happened before and he carried on playing, which made it worse. I didn’t want to take that chance with Brendan. He’s a very key member of our team. Hopefully, we’ve got three or four days now. I wanted him off so it wouldn’t get worse, but we’ll wait for the scan. His initial reaction was, “I think it’s bad,” but we’ll wait for the medical report.

(Message in dressing room) I just said bravery, courage and clarity will go a long way. We’ve set our plans, and I want everyone to execute them to the best of their ability. Once we saw the bounce and pace in the wicket, that reassured us to stick with our plan."
Jatinder Singh (Oman Captain): (On the batting performance) "I think batting first, we just didn’t put enough runs on the board. Scoring 106 is always going to be a big ask for the bowlers. As a batting unit, we didn’t click today. In T20 cricket, you need around 160-170 runs to give your bowlers a real chance to compete.

(On Zimbabwe’s pace and bounce) We were prepared for their bowlers because we had played a warm-up game, so we knew what to expect. However, the bounce on this pitch was a bit more than what we experienced during the warm-ups. That said, it’s something we had to cope with. Again, it comes back to putting enough runs on the board to handle such challenges.

(On positives from the match) There are definitely positives to take. Sufyan bowled really well, and Faisal also had a good spell. Our fielding was quite good, too, so those are things we can carry forward.

(On his message to the team in the dressing room) As soon as the game ended, we had a huddle. I told the boys not to drop their shoulders. This is just the start of the tournament. You have to keep strong self-belief - miracles can happen in cricket. We need to believe that we are the ones who can make a difference. We have to play like warriors.”
Blessing Muzarabani (POTM): "Oh yeah, it was really nice for us to get the first win out of the way. But now it’s just game by game—we’re focusing on the upcoming matches. I’m really happy with today.

(On bowling with a short run-up)
Not really. I’m just coming back from a little back injury, so sometimes it gets in your head and you don’t want to push it. But yeah, it’s still the same heart, same run-up. (On pitch conditions) Yes, there was some bounce, which made us really happy. It was a little bit skiddy as well, so I’m really happy I could use the conditions.

(Ready to adjust to different wickets) Yeah, as I said, it’s just game by game. I’m not looking too far ahead—just focusing on one match at a time. I’m really happy with today.

(On upcoming games) Yes, it’s going to be a good challenge. Of course, we’ll take it game by game. Nothing changes— a good ball is a good ball."

5:51 PM IST, LOCAL TIME: D. Capital D. As they say, dominance doesn’t need noise, but Zimbabwe said plenty. Oman struggled to breathe. One side executed plans. The other searched for survival. From a ruthless bowling Powerplay to a stroll in the chase, this was control disguised as calm. Zimbabwe win by 8 wickets with 39 balls remaining, but the story was written much earlier than the finish line.

The Powerplay? It was over before it began. Zimbabwe needed 104, and they started with intent, not anxiety. 43/2 in the Powerplay, but context mattered. Brian Bennett stayed unflustered. Tadiwanashe Marumani exploded with 21 off 11, five crisp fours. Oman struck twice, including Dion Myers for a duck, but the asking rate stayed friendly. At Drinks, the required rate was barely 5.15. Control firmly with the chasers.

Then, there was a calm march. No rush. No risks. Bennett and Brendan Taylor stitched a match-sealing stand. The third-wicket partnership of 68 runs quietly drained Oman’s hopes. Zimbabwe crossed 50 in 6.5 overs, 100 in 12.6, never letting pressure knock. Taylor rotated strike. Bennett found gaps. Oman’s bowlers tried changes, angles, and pace off. Nothing stuck. The game slowed… but only because Zimbabwe said so.

And lately, Brendan Taylor retired hurt on 31 (30) at 98/2, as he was struggling to run, but at that time, the target was already in sight. Sikandar Raza walked in and finished it in style. 106/2 in 13.3 overs. Match done. Result sealed. Oman never got a sniff beyond the Powerplay. Sometimes, the most brutal finishes are the quietest ones.

Earlier, where did the match truly turn? Oman’s first innings' Powerplay!! Right at the start. 23/4 in the Powerplay. That’s the match right there. Muzarabani and Ngarava were relentless. Seam movement. Extra bounce. Discipline. Oman’s top four were gone before they could blink. Drinks read 24/4, and recovery already felt unlikely. Zimbabwe sensed blood. They never eased off.

Oman tried to fightback. Vinayak Shukla (28 off 21) and Sufyan Mehmood (25 off 39) added some resistance. Oman reached 50 in 11.4 overs, 69/5 at drinks (14). But wickets kept falling. Evans picked up three - Ngarava and Muzarabani had three each. Oman crawled to 103 all out in 19.5 overs. Effort, yes. Impact, no.
