18:55 PM IST, 19:10 PM Local Time: LUMBINI LIONS ARE THROUGH TO THE FINAL OF NPL 2025. What a performance from the Rohit Paudel side with a complete team bowling effort helping them beat the Biratnagar Kings by 40 runs.
Defending 135, Ruben Trumpelmann got the Lions off to the best possible start by dismissing Martin Guptill and Lokesh Bam in the very first over. The Kings were soon reduced to 6/3 as Sher Malla bowled Faf du Plessis.
The Kings got to 28/3 at the end of the Powerplay and soon lost Shankar Rana to Tilak Raj Bhandari. Marchant de Lange was promoted to No.6 but the move didnât quite work as the South African struggled to produce the big hits. Sam Heazlett was forced to accelerate and he holed out to deep backward square-leg off JJ Smitâs bowling in the 10th over. The Kings collapsed big time after that with the duo of Bhandari and Abhishesh Gautam cleaning up the lower-order.
Naren Bhatta fought for a while with a couple of maximums but it was too little, too late as the Kings were bowled out for 94 with JJ Smit dismissing him.
Earlier in the match, Subash Bhandari dismissed Dinesh Adhikari cheaply in the second over. The pair of DâAarcy Short and Rohit Paudel ensured no further damage in the Powerplay as the Lions got to 44/1 at the end of six overs. The duo stitched a 50-run partnership and continued to bat nicely when Subash came back to castle Rohit in the 12th over.
Subash wasnât done yet as he got rid of Short in the 14th over as well. From there, Sandeep Lamichhane and Pratis GC ran through the middle and lower-order. Niroshan Dickwella was the lone hope for the Lions but Lamichhane had him holing out to the deep in the 18th over. The Lions scrambled to 134/8 off 20 overs which proved to be a winning total in the end.
