That's it from our end. The Avengers have bagged their maiden win of the season, but the Bolts have to wait for their first win. Nevertheless, the action will continue in this NPL tomorrow as well. We will see you then. But switch tabs as pretty cricketing action is going on.
See you around. This is Arjun Bhalla, signing off for Mohammad Anab and Asraj Khan!
Kushal Bhurtel (Pokhara Avengers Captain): "After losing two back-to-back games, it is good to be on the winning side today. We started the game very well. We had some good partnerships. Time for post-match presentation!
7:05 PM IST, 7:20 PM Local Time: Pokhara Avengers have won this game. Janakpur Bolts could manage only 130/8 and lost the game by 25 runs. Avengers register their first win of NPL 2025.
Bucking the trend and deciding to bat first, Avengers openers Dinesh Kharel (38) and Adam Rossington (24) gave their side a flying start, stitching together a bright 61-run partnership. But the momentum was short-lived, as the Avengers suddenly stumbled, losing three wickets in rapid succession — two of them falling on consecutive deliveries to Sanjay Krishnamurthi (3/21). The left-arm spinner continued his impressive spell by removing Jimmy Neesham as well.
Just when the innings appeared to be spiralling downward, Sumeet Verma and Trit Raj Das revived the effort with a brilliant stand. The pair combined for 72 runs off just 50 deliveries, with Verma remaining unbeaten on a fine half-century. In the end, the Avengers managed to post a total of 155/6.
In reply, the Bolts had a horrible start as they lost two of their wickets in the very first over. After that, they lost another couple of wickets in the fourth over. The side had lost half of their side by the end of the seventh over. After that, wickets continued to fall. It was only Wayne Parnell, who was making his NPL debut, who kept his side in the hunt by hitting sixes at the back-end of the innings. The former South African player went on to notch a half-century before getting retired hurt due to his hamstring being pulled.
In the end, Bolts could manage only 130/8. Avengers' spinner Bipin Khatri was brilliant with the ball and picked up 4/15.
Apart from him, Sumeet Verma also picked up two wickets. Notably, Verma had a bit of an altercation in the middle with Nicol Loftie-Eaton, and it was the former who turned out to be victorious. Verma smashed him for boundaries in the first innings and also took his wicket in the second innings.
Notably, almost every time, presenter Jeff Crowe was having a quick interview on the sidelines of the game, a wicket fell. This happened so much that even commentators took note of it.
The Avengers have now one win from three games, while Bolts haven't won a single game from the three matches they have played so far. The Avengers are now in sixth position in the points table, while the Bolts continue to stay at the last.
