The momentum kept shifting throughout, but in the end, it was the Deccan Gladiators who held their nerve and crossed the finish line. The Royal Champsā call to give Dawson the final over backfired badly. The Gladiators hold firm and seal the victory by 8 wickets!
Earlier in the day, the Gladiators won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Royal Champs began steadily as Jason Roy and Niroshan Dickwella provided a solid platform at the top. They immediately opted for the floating powerplay after the mandatory one ended. Ibrar Ahmad Shah was given the ball for that over, and though he was taken for 19 runs, he eventually struck back by removing the Royal Champs skipper Jason Roy (17).
Dickwella played a fluent innings, regularly finding the fence and keeping the scoreboard moving before his fellow countryman Lahiru Kumara removed him for a well-made 33 off 17 balls. Aaron Jones chipped in with a handy 28 off 13 before falling, while Brandon McMullen added late momentum with a sharp cameo, staying unbeaten on 28 off 19 deliveries. Quentin Sampson faced just three balls and smashed 14 runs, helping the Royal Champs post a strong total of 133/3 from their allotted 10 overs.
In reply, Daniel Sams set the tone perfectly with an exceptional first over, delivering the seasonās first maiden over and putting immediate pressure on the Gladiators. Nicholas Pooran then exploded in the next over, hammering Rishi Dhawan all around the park, but Dhawan had the final laugh by removing him for a blazing 24 off just 6 balls on the last delivery of the powerplay despite giving away 29 runs.
