That is it from our side for this Super Smash contest between the Volts and the Aces. The visitors made sure they bounce back to winning ways here in Otago. Their young chap Bevon Jacobs is milking runs for fun and seems unstoppable at the moment. The carnival carries on and we move to Napier tomorrow. The weather is great and the Central Districts will take on the Northern Brave.
On this note, I, Manan Mehta would like to take your leave on behalf of my colleagues Deepak Prakash and Bishal Mandal. B-byeeee!!!
Sean Solia (Auckland Aces Captain): "Yeah, itās incredible. Heās (Bevon Jacobs) a really talented kid and works extremely hard, so itās no surprise to see him performing as well as he is. Iām really pleased with how the boys bowled todayāthere were strong efforts from everyone, including in the field.
To restrict them to around 150 and then chase it down the way we did was very satisfying. Thatās definitely the plan going forward. With a quick turnaround, thereās no time to dwell on itājust move on to the next one. Hopefully, we can find some redemption back on our home turf."
Max Chu (Otago Volts Captain): "That's pretty much it. We were 20 short with the bat. Both teams bowled well but Bevon just took it away from us.
Absolutely, we knew the wickets were currency at the ground. Happy to start well with the ball but then we just gave it away. Absolutely enjoyed coming back here and playing. Love the crowd, love the ground and the people."
Bevon Jacobs (POTM): "Thanks. Yeah, itās been really nice to contribute to the season, and Iāve been enjoying myself out there. Thereās no real secret to itāIāve just been having fun, keeping things as simple as possible, and doing what I can to help get the boys over the line. Obviously, we were disappointed that we couldnāt do it against the Kings, so it was pleasing to finish the job today.
Yeah, 100%. I think coming in early with Chappie (Chapman) and having someone with his experience was awesome. He really kept my head straight and just told me to bat for a bit, that there was plenty of time out there, and to take it as deep as possible while we built that partnership. That approach was really helpful in the context of the game.
I guess so, in a way. The plan is the same, but everyone approaches it a little differently. For us, it was about discussing match-upsāfiguring out which end would be easier to score from with the wind and trying to align certain strengths against specific types of bowlers."
Player of the Match: Bevon Jacobs
11:59 AM IST and 7:29 PM Local Time: Auckland Aces win by 5 wickets! This has been a superb display of skill from the Aces. They out-batted and out-bowled the home side with sheer class. They found match winners in both innings and deservingly take the four points today. They move to the second spot on the table with that win.
The Auckland Aces won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Volts lost Jacob Cumming early but then Jack Boyle and Jamal Todd led the counterattack. Todd was dismissed soon but then Max Chu came in and stitched a few good boundaries with Boyle. They took the score to 57/2 before Chu was dismissed too.
The powerplay was shared but post that, the Aces bounced back with regularly wickets. Jack Boyle was soon dismissed for 32. Only Llew Johnson showed a good fight with his gritty 63 off 44 balls. The entire lower middle order got single digit scores. Johnson's knock made sure that the Volts get to a respectable first innings score of 159/10. They were 20 runs short at that point. The pick of the bowlers for the Aces were Angus Olliver (2-27) and Siddhesh Dixit (2-33).
The chase started on a good note for the Aces. They raced to 29/0 in just 2.3 overs. However, a flurry of wickets followed. From 29/0 they were reduced to 32/3 in a span of 10 balls. The top three were back in the hut without adding much to the score. That is when the Aces fought back in the form of Mark Chapman and Bevon Jacobs.
The pair first brought calm to the proceedings and then counterattacked in fine fashion. They stitched a 67-ball 87 runs stand. With that stand the brought the Aces right back in the hunt. The stand was broken by Troy Johnson who dismissed Chapman for 39.
Jacobs became even more aggressive after that wicket and got his fifty. He then smoked 19 runs of the 17th over bowled by Jacob Duffy. He brought the equation down to 20 off 18 making the visitors firm favorites. He ended with a match winning 78*. The pick of the bowlers for the Volts were Troy Johnson (2-20), Matt Bacon (1-26) and Ben Lockrose (1-20). The Aces are back into the wins and continue their good tournament ahead.

6 In the air.......six! That's it! Jacobs finishes things in style, and the Aces win by 5 wickets. Length delivery on the stumps line. Jacobs charges down the track and tonks it over long-on fielder for a maximum to seal the game.
