That’s all from the rain-hit first Youth ODI of the three-match series. India U19 won by 25 runs on the DLS method and took a 1-0 lead in the series. For now, it’s me, Deepak Prakash, signing off on behalf of my colleagues, Arjun Bhalla, Utsav Chandak, Manan Mehta, and Zeeshan Naiyer. CHEERS!
9:18 PM IST, 5:48 PM Local Time: Persistent rain forced the umpires to call off the game, and India U19 won the first Youth ODI of the three-match series by 25 runs via the DLS method to go 1–0 up in the series.

Earlier, India U19 recovered from a disastrous start to post a competitive total of 301 all out in their 50 overs against South Africa U19. The visitors were initially pushed to the wall, reeling at 67/4 within the first 15 overs after a clinical opening spell by the Proteas. Among the early casualties was skipper Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who fell to the disciplined JJ Basson, leaving the Indian middle order with a massive rebuilding task.

The innings was rescued by a brilliant 137 run partnership between Ambrish RS and Harvansh Pangalia. As the ball softened, the duo neutralized the South African attack through expert strike rotation and aggressive running. Ambrish RS played a majestic hand of 65 off 73 balls, including seven boundaries, while Pangalia anchored the innings with a top score of 93 off 95 balls. Despite falling just seven runs short of a well-deserved century, Pangalia’s knock, featuring seven fours and two sixes, provided the platform India desperately needed.

The momentum continued late in the innings thanks to a brisk 32 from new RCB recruit Kanishk Chouhan and a powerful finish from Khilan Patel. Despite a brief delay due to lightning and bad light, Patel hammered a quickfire 26 off 12 balls, including three towering maximums, to push the total to 300. For South Africa, JJ Basson was the standout performer with the ball, returning figures of 4/54. His haul was high in quality, accounting for the key wickets of Suryavanshi, the set Pangalia, and the dangerous Chouhan to keep the contest balanced heading into the chase.

In reply, South Africa U19 got off to a decent start as Jorich van Schalkwyk and Adnaan Lagadien looked in good touch, but they failed to convert the opening partnership into a big one as Deepesh Devendran trapped Lagadien for 19 to draw first blood for the Boys in Blue. After the fall of the opening wicket, South Africa lost Muhammed Bulbulia (5) and Jason Rowles (16) in quick succession and were reeling at 62/3.

Armaan Manack then joined van Schalkwyk in the middle, and the duo began the recovery, keeping the scoreboard ticking at a decent pace. Van Schalkwyk brought up his fifty, and the partnership was closing in on three figures before Manack was run out for 46 while attempting a run on an overthrow, bringing an end to the 86-run stand.

Just after Manack’s dismissal, lightning was spotted near the venue, and the players were taken off the field as a safety precaution. It was later followed by heavy rain, which showed no signs of relenting, and the match was eventually called off, and India U19 won by 25 runs via the DLS method.

Deepesh Devendran bagged a couple of wickets for India U19, while Khilan Patel celebrated a solitary wicket.
