An abrupt end in Adelaide to match number 37! Well, that is how it has been all through this WBBL. So many rain interrupted games and add this one to the list. The WBBL juggernaut moves to Melbourne and Perth tomorrow. Melbourne Stars will take on Sydney Thunder in the morning clash. Perth Scorchers will go up against Brisbane Heat in the evening!
On this note, I, Manan Mehta would like to take your leave on behalf of my co-commentator Deepak Prakash and our scorer/analyst Sachin Yadav. See yaa!!!
Qualification scenario: Hobart Hurricanes Women, secured at the top of the table, are set to host the WBBL 11 final.
The Strikers move to nine points from nine matches, keeping the finals race open as they remain in contention for one of the three remaining top-four spots.
Melbourne Stars, Sydney Sixers, Perth Scorchers, and Melbourne Renegades are also in the mix for qualification for next week’s finals series.
UPDATE: 🚨 Rain wasn’t the only factor to call off the game, and you might be wondering 🤔 why the match was called off so quickly. The umpires had a much bigger concern to deal with.
During the Strikers’ warm-up to take the field, a wayward throw caused the ball to slip under the roller, which was pressed into the surface as the curator continued rolling the pitch, creating a hole in the pitch. Despite the ground staff’s efforts, the damage left the surface uneven and materially different from what the Strikers had batted on earlier. After discussions between the umpires and the match referee, it was deemed unreasonable and unsafe to expect the Hurricanes to bat on a surface that had changed so drastically. With rain also lingering around, the officials were left with no option but to abandon the match, resulting in both teams sharing the points.
4:03 PM IST and 9:03 PM IST: NO RESULT due to rain! Both the teams will share a point each. Strikers made a remarkable recovery in the first innings to get to a competitive score but unfortunately the weather did not allow them to defend it!
4 PM IST and 9 PM Local Time: The rain is back and that has forced the match officials to call off the game!! Both teams share a point each with this game ending with a no-result!
3:44 PM IST, 8:44 PM Local Time:It looks like the rain has stopped. The ground staff are applying clay to repair the divot caused by the ball. Play, already halted by rain, is now further delayed because of the wicket.
3:37 PM IST, 8:37 PM Local Time: There is no update from the ground, and it seems the rain is still falling. Let’s share a strange moment from the innings break 👇 A misdirected throw during practice in the innings break from Amanda-Jade Wellington slipped under the roller and gouged a divot in the wicket. It would have taken some work from the groundsmen to fix it, and it will be interesting to see if there are any differences on the pitch compared to the first innings.
3:08 PM IST, 8:08 PM Local Time: Uh-Oh! It has started raining after the end of the first innings, and the groundsmen have covered the pitch. Hopefully, it will pass away soon.
