That marks the end of our coverage of the Saturday WBBL double header. In the night game, which was a Sydney derby, the Sixers defeated the Thunder Women by 24 runs and have been promoted to the second position of the points table. The superbly talented youngster Caoimhe Bray claimed a hat-trick and took the crucial wickets to help her side get a victory. This performance in a high-intensity encounter, against some of the elite batters in the competition, will only escalate her confidence going forward.

For now, this is Saptak Sanyal signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Manan Mehta, the scorer/analyst of this match, Paras Yadav and the statistician of this game, Aman.
HAT-TRICKS IN WBBL:

Nicole Bolton - Perth Scorchers vs Hobart Hurricanes, Sydney, 2015

Gemma Triscari - Melbourne Stars vs Sydney Thunder, Sydney, 2016

Amy Satterthwaite - Hobart Hurricanes vs Sydney Thunder, Hobart, 2017

Dane van Niekerk - Sydney Sixers vs Hobart Hurricanes, Hobart, 2017

Marizanne Kapp - Sydney Sixers vs Melbourne Stars, Sydney, 2019

Darcie Brown - Adelaide Strikers vs Brisbane Heat, Launceston, 2021

Caoimhe Bray - Sydney Sixers vs Sydney Thunder, Sydney, 2025, TONIGHT*
Caoimhe Bray (Player of the match): "It is pretty crazy. Did not know it is a hattrick, got to know by the reactions. Very happy to get a win under the belt.

There was something in the wicket. The plan was just to keep it tight and hit the top of the stumps. Used the pitch well and yeah that helped."

4:40 PM IST and 10:10 PM Local Time : Sydney Sixers Women are coming out triumphant in the Sydney-derby defeating the Sydney Thunder Women by 24 runs. They have shown the dominance with the ball in hand and are the deserving winners of this game.

Thunder skipper Litchfield won the bat flip and sent the Sixers to bat first. Ellyse Perry got out early but the pair of Sophia Dunkley and Alyssa Healy took the onus on them and kept the scoreboard ticking. Their partnership yielded 60 runs for the second wicket in just 35 balls. Healy got out for 26 runs off 15 balls but Dunkley got the going. She top scored for the Sixers with 43 off 35 balls hitting 6 boundaries.

The concern for the Sixers was the failure of their middle order. Gardner, Maitlan Brown and Erin Burns got out cheaply but Mady Villiers helped them to recover from that quagmire. She hardly got any support from the other end by the lower order batters but remained unbeaten on 24 off 19 balls. Sydney Sixers finished with 142 runs on the board losing 9 wickets.

Shabnim Ismail took 3 wickets for 27 runs. Georgia Voll took a couple of wickets for the Thunder Women.

Coming out to defend the 143-run target, Sixers depended on their pacers and they yielded the results to them. Lauren Cheatle, Maitlan Brown and the prodigious Caoimhe Bray didn't settle the Sydney Thunder Women batters and none of their top order batters got a good start. Cheatle removed Voll to give the first breakthrough and then the rest of the batters fell one by one like nine pins.

The star of the show was Caoimhe Bray. She removed Phoebe Litchfield in the final ball of the 7th over and then returned to bowl the 9th over and got the better of Anika Learoyd and Laura Harris in the first two balls to claim a hat-trick. It becomes really special for a 16-year old girl to play WBBL and then there is Bray who has a hat-trick besides her name!! She removed Chamari Athapaththu later to finish with 4/15 and bagged the player of the match award for it.

Sydney Thunder Women never recovered after that. Lucy Finn's unbeaten 49-run knock reduced the misery of the defeat only. She played 34 balls and hit 8 boundaries on her innings and Thunder finished with 118/8 after their 20 overs.

Bray broke the spine of the Thunder batting and got the assistance from her seam bowling partners too. Maitlan Brown took 2 wickets and Lauren Cheatle took one.

2 Length ball outside off stump, Ismail cuts it past point and takes a couple off the last ball! The Sydney Sixers win this contest by 24 runs!
19.5 A Gardner to L Finn
1 Fuller ball on the stumps, driven down the ground and Finn drives it down the ground! 49* is what Finn will unfortunately end on!
