Player of the Match: Brian Bennett
4:23 PM IST & 12:53 PM Local Time: That’s it from Bulawayo! Zimbabwe put in a dominant all-round display to crush Namibia by 33 runs and go 1-0 up in the three-match T20I series.
Earlier in the day, Namibia won the toss and opted to bowl first, but Zimbabwe’s openers seized control in Bulawayo. Brian Bennett and Tadiwanashe Marumani dominated upfront, adding a brilliant 124-run stand for the first wicket. Both batters registered well-deserved half-centuries, putting Zimbabwe in the driver’s seat. The partnership was finally broken by Alexander Volschenk, who removed Marumani for a fine 62.
Brian Bennett held the innings together brilliantly, mixing steady strokes with timely boundaries. Ryan Burl, promoted up the order, chipped in with a fiery cameo of 22 off just 9 balls, while skipper Sikandar Raza added late fireworks with an unbeaten 23 off 11. Bennett, eyeing a ton, fell short on 94 from 49 balls, but his knock set the tone as Zimbabwe powered their way to 211/3 in 20 overs.
Chasing a stiff target, Namibia needed early momentum and got a few crisp boundaries from Kruger and Frylinck. However, Blessing Muzarabani struck in his very first over, sending Kruger back for 13 off 13. Frylinck then joined hands with Nicol Loftie-Eaton to rebuild, adding a brisk 56 off 32 balls. Just as the partnership looked threatening, Sikandar Raza provided the breakthrough, removing Frylinck for 21 off 13 at a crucial stage.
Nicol Loftie-Eaton fell soon after for 38 off 24, and though Namibia got handy contributions from Gerhard Erasmus (26 off 19), Zane Green (33 off 27) and a late cameo from Ruben Trumpelmann (20 off 9), the chase never quite took off. They eventually fell 33 runs short, handing Zimbabwe a convincing win and a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series. 2 wickets apiece for Blessing Muzarabani (2/38) & Sikandar Raza (2/31).
