That's it from our live coverage of this Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 match between Bengal and Chandigarh. This is Mohammad Anab signing off on behalf of my co-commentators Saptak Sanyal and Darpan Tikiya (1st innings), and our scorer/analyst Danish Elahi. Cheers.
Player of the Match: Mukesh Kumar
5:08 PM IST, Local Time: A clinical display from the Bengal batters as they have registered a comprehensive win by six wickets with more than two overs to spare. They made the 320-run target look very easy. Now Bengal have two wins from three games while Chandigarh have suffered a hat-trick of defeats in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 and will continue to remain at the bottom of the Elite Group B points table.
Earlier in the day, Chandigarh posted a competitive 319 all out in 48.2 overs, built around a splendid century from captain Manan Vohra. Leading from the front, Vohra paced his innings expertly, mixing caution with aggression to hold the Chandigarh innings together.
Contributions from the supporting cast ensured momentum through the middle overs, though Bengal's Mukesh Kumar tightened the screws late to prevent a bigger total as the pacer took three wickets in the 48th over. Kumar took a five-wicket haul while Mohammed Shami picked up three scalps.
In response, Bengal’s batters made the chase look increasingly straightforward. The openers Abishek Porel and Abhimanyu Easwaran set the tone with a confident start, finding boundaries early and rotating strike efficiently to negate any early pressure. The first wicket partnership added 88 runs before Easwaran departed for 25.
Porel was middling almost every ball. He looked in sublime touch and went on to register his second List A ton. Sudip Gharami departed for 17 with the team's score at 127. Later, Porel stitched a 59-run stand with Anustup Majumdar before getting dismissed for 106 (84).
Later, Majumdar and Shahbaz Ahmed added 92 runs for the third wicket. Both of them registered half-centuries. Majumdar departed for 63 (70) while Shahbaz stayed unbeaten till the end. He made 76* off 61 balls and ensured a victory with Sumanta Gupta (22*) by his side.
The middle order, in particular, impressed with its composure, showing patience against spin and authority against the seamers. With fluent half-centuries and unbeaten knocks anchoring the innings, Bengal ensured there were no hiccups as the target approached.
Chandigarh bowlers were very expensive and didn't look in touch. Except for the left-arm orthodox spin duo of Nishunk Birla and Taranpreet Singh, everybody conceded at more than 5 runs per over. They will surely make some changes in their bowling line-up on Wednesday.
