Preview by Ajay Pal Singh

After a comfortable win in the series opener, South Africa Women will look to seal the three-match ODI series with a game to spare when they face hosts Pakistan Women in the second encounter at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Friday (September 19).

It was the Marizanne Kapp show in the first ODI, as she produced a career-best unbeaten 121 to guide the Proteas Women to a comfortable chase of 256.

Pakistan showed resilience with the bat after winning the toss and opting to bat first. Muneeba Ali provided a solid start, bringing up a well-crafted half-century and steadying the innings alongside Sidra Amin following the early dismissal of Shawaal Zulfiqar.

Aliya Riaz chipped in with a useful 33 off 34 balls, while Sidra Amin anchored the innings brilliantly, finishing unbeaten on 121 off 150 deliveries. Pakistan Women posted a competitive total of 255/4 in their 50 overs.

For South Africa, Ayabonga Khaka claimed two wickets, Tumi Sekhukhune picked up one, and one batter was run out.

In response, South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt’s poor run of form continued as she was dismissed in the second over.

However, Tazmin Brits anchored the innings with a superb unbeaten century. She was well supported by Sune Luus, who chipped in with a handy 30 off 35 balls, before Marizanne Kapp came in and stole the show with a boundary-filled innings that took the game away from Pakistan.

Kapp and Brits added 216 runs for the third wicket to secure a 1-0 lead for the Proteas Women against Pakistan.

Can the hosts bounce back to take the series into a decider? To find out, tune in at 3 PM IST & 2:30 PM Local Time for its live coverage.
