2:08 PM IST, Local Time: Jammu and Kashmir defeat Maharashtra by 5 wickets and start their Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 campaign on a positive note.
Earlier, after being invited to bat first, Maharashtra were bowled out for 130. They lost wickets early and never built momentum despite a brisk start from Arshin Kulkarni (20 off 13). The middle order failed to convert starts, with Nikhil Naik (19 off 25) and Vicky Ostwal (21 off 25) soaking up deliveries but unable to accelerate. Valuable runs from Rajvardhan Hangargekar (12* off 5) lifted them to a modest total, but J&K’s bowlers dominated throughout — Auqib Nabi starred with three wickets, supported by Yudhvir Singh, Abid Mushtaq, and Umran Malik, who picked up two each. In reply, Qamran Iqbal (28) and Shubham Khajuria (26) added 48 runs for the opening wicket, giving J&K a solid start. But once the openers departed, the innings wobbled as Vivrant Sharma (11), Musaif Ajaz (5), and Abdul Samad (20) fell in quick succession. The chase, however, was steadied by Kanhaiya Wadhawan (19*) and Abid Mushtaq (18*), who kept their composure and guided J&K home with 8 balls to spare. Rajvardhan Hangargekar and Prashant Solanki picked up two wickets each for Maharashtra, while Arshin Kulkarni claimed one, but their efforts weren’t enough to defend a below-par total.

4 FOUR RUNS! That's it! Fuller and on the stumps. Drives and gets the inside edge that rolls past the diving keeper to his left for a boundary. Jammu and Kashmir win by 5 wickets and 8 balls to spare, starting their campaign on a high note.

1 Short of a length angled into the batter. Mushtaq hops and dabs it to point for one.
