That's it from our end as Saurashtra have beaten Tripura fair and square on the opening day of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. But, you don't go anywhere as cricket NEVER ends at CREX! Keeping switching tabs to not miss any action from the field of cricket.
See you around, this is Arjun Bhalla signing on behalf of my colleagues Mohammad Anab and Sachin Yadav!
2:02 PM IST, Local Time: End of the match. With 19 runs from this over, Saurashtra have won the match by four wickets and 24 balls remaining. Tripura showed excellent fighting spirit in the game but it was not enough to stop Saurashtra from registering their first win in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025.
Saurashtra made the most of winning the toss, seizing early control on a spicy green surface that offered plenty for the seam bowlers. Skipper Jaydev Unadkat and Chetan Sakariya extracted sharp movement off the pitch and put Tripura under immediate pressure, despite the presence of experienced names like Hanuma Vihari, Vijay Shankar and Swapnil Singh in the opposition line-up.
At the end of the powerplay, Tripura were reeling at 29 for 4. They had faced 27 balls in the first six overs. Amid the collapse, Hanuma Vihari and captain Manisankar Murasingh attempted to hit back. For a brief phase, it appeared the pair might steady the innings and push Tripura towards a competitive score, but Chirag Jani dashed those hopes with a double strike in a single over.
With wickets tumbling around him, skipper Murasingh counterpunched with a fighting half-century, but Jani removed him for 56 in the second-last over. The innings wrapped up shortly after, with Amit Ali falling as the final wicket, leaving Tripura bowled out for 123 with three balls unused. Jani and Unadkat picked up three wickets each, while Sakariya and Dharmendrasinh Jadeja took two scalps each.
Chetan Sakariya took five catches in the first innings and equalled the record for most catches by a fielder in a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy game.
In reply, Saurashtra started strongly and lost their first only when the score was at 42. However, then came a period when Saurashtra almost faltered in their chase. They lost a wicket in each of the four consecutive overs (from 7.1 to 10.6). After the powerplay, there was a period when no boundaries were scored for 37 balls.
Struggling at 93/6, the Saurashtrian pair of Ruchit Ahir and Dharmendrasinh Jadeja ensured no further loss of wickets. The required run-rate was not much and it made the task easier. In the 16th over, the pair smashed 19 runs and took their side over the line with four wickets left.
Ahir was the top scorer for Saurashtra with 29 off 15 balls. For Tripura, Swapnil Singh and Saurabh Das picked up two wickets each.
A victory with four overs remaining will surely bolster Saurashtra's net run-rate.

2 THAT WOULD BE IT!!!! Saurashtra have chased down the target with four overs to spare, despite facing hiccups in the middle. Dropped short and outside the off-stump. Ahir makes room and then slashes towards vacant sweeper cover. It doesn't cross the ropes, but they run two off it.
15.5 A Ali to R Ahir
4 FOURRRR!! That has been thrashed over mid-off. Too full and wide of the off-stump. The batter reaches for it and thumps well over mid off for a boundary.
15.4 A Ali to R Ahir
6 SIXXX!!!! Ahir swipes over square leg for a biggie! Pitched too full on off-stump. The batter presses forward on the front foot and then slog sweeps it over deep square leg for a maximum!!
15.3 A Ali to R Ahir
0 Tossed up on off-stump. Ahir hangs back and pushes to covers.
15.2 A Ali to R Ahir
6 SIXXXX. Too full. Tries to fox him on the flight but misses his length. Tossed up. Very full at middle stump. Right in the slot and Ahir smashes it, from the middle of the bat, over the bowler's head and to the sightscreen for a six.
15.1 A Ali to D Jadeja
1 Right arm over. Tossed up. Fullish, just outside off. Goes across and then sweeps it hard to deep midwicket for a run.
