Magnificent performance from the Canterbury bowling attack and then a fantastic knock from Chad Bowes and his partnership with Henry Nicholls ensure the side move into the grand finale of the Super Smash competition!

That's it from our coverage of the Elimination Final. Ninaad Dixit here signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Dev Rajawat and scorer Dushyant Madhukar Kumar. Stay tuned for more action from around the world.
Cole McConchie (Canterbury Captain): ā€œYeah, it’s obviously exciting to be through to the final, but you’re right - there is definitely a sense of unfinished business. We spoke about that right at the start of the campaign. There’s no point shying away from it. We’ve been in a few finals over the last four years, and we want to lean on that experience and make sure we take the next step.

It was a great way to come out here, put in a strong performance, and build some momentum heading into tomorrow, because we’re going to need it. ND have been playing some really good cricket, so hopefully it’s a fantastic final. This win was important for us.

We started the competition well, then perhaps went off the boil a little bit. So to come back, nail our skills, and perform like we did today is huge. Throughout this tournament, whenever we execute properly, we’ve shown we can be a tough team to beat. It was also special to do it here at Hagley, in front of a home crowd. We’ll take confidence from this, along with some valuable learnings from the surface, into the final.

No win is ever easy, especially in knockout cricket. Auckland were a real threat coming into this match, so we knew we had to show up. I thought our seamers, in particular, set the tone early and really laid the foundation for the win. Now it’s all about recovering quickly and being ready for the big one tomorrow.ā€
Sean Solia (Auckland Captain): "Unfortunately the result didn't go our way today. We played good cricket throughout the comp but didn't turn up when it mattered. We will reflect on what happened today but there's still cricket left in the season. Last year we lost our last round robin game so nice to go one step better. Still hurting from today's disappointing result. We'll back our batters. Canterbury bowlers didn't give us much. We didn't get the partnerships to release the pressure."
Fraser Sheat (Player of the Match): ā€œThanks very much. Yeah, it’s awesome to be out here in front of the home fans with such a great crowd. To restrict them to the low 100s and contribute like that feels really satisfying.

Playing on our home pitch definitely helps - we play here all the time, so we know the conditions well. We worked things out pretty early, and the plan was simple: hit the right areas consistently for as long as possible, and just keep doing it.

Bowling dot balls is just as important as taking wickets, especially on a surface like this with a bit of extra bounce. The key is really just keeping it simple and trying to bowl your best ball over and over again. Performances like this give you a lot of confidence, especially heading into a final.

We’ve got a quick turnaround tomorrow night against a strong Braves side, but we’ve already played on this wicket and put together a good performance, so we’re feeling positive.

And honestly, I wouldn’t have been too unhappy if Chad got the award. He’s been out injured for a while, and it was great to see him come back and perform the way he did as well.ā€

12:58 PM IST, 8:28 PM Local Time: Canterbury defeat Auckland by 9 wickets and enter the Super Smash 2025/26 final! The Kings will face Northern Districts at the same venue tomorrow, Auckland have been eliminated of the competition.

Auckland won the toss and elected to bat first. The decision proved to be a poor one. Fraser Sheat picked up 3/13, Cole McConchie also chipped in with 3/20 and Michael Rae after an expensive start finished with 2/39 to bundle Auckland for 106 in 18.4 overs, Ryan Harrison top scored with 30.

The Kings started their chase well adding 31 runs in just 2.2 overs with Chad Bowes hitting the ball to the fence since the word go. Tom Latham departed cheaply for just 2. Henry Nicholls at number 3 was struggling to time the ball in the beginning but Bowes continued the assault from the other end.

The opener brought up his 26th T20 fifty and remained unbeaten on 59 in 31 deliveries hitting 10 fours in the process. Nicholls finished unbeaten on 34 in 28 deliveries smashing 4 boundaries. Just one maximum was hit in the entire match by Dale Phillips in the first innings.

Ryan Harrison was the top scorer for Auckland and was the only wicket taker for the side as well claiming 1/20 in 3 overs. Rohit Gulati bowled 2 overs conceding just 13 runs but there were never enough on the board for Auckland to come back in the game.
