That's the end of our coverage from this humdinger of an encounter between Northern Brave and Otago. Both the teams were not willing to give anything loose and that led to make this encounter a fiercely competitive one. In the end, both the teams got stranded at an equal score and the game ended in a tie.

The Super Smash will be back again on Tuesday with Auckland taking on Otago in the Eden Park Outer Oval, Auckland. We will meet again. Until then, this is Saptak Sanyal signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Manan Mehta and the scorer/analyst of this game Sahil Khan.
Max Chu (Player of the Match): "Yeah, I think with 20-20 cricket we always talk about margins. Both teams will rue some missed chances. Had those been taken, we would have had a winner.

(On Luke Georgeson's injury) Definitely something we don't prepare for. Not sure how fine Luke is but hopefully he is okay. The emotions are running high right now. It all came down to that last well executed yorker though.

(On batters being retired) You always feel bad for retired batters. They are not trying to slow the game down. But then I feel credit goes to our spinners. They slowed the game down really well."

Time for the post match presentations...
1:46 PM IST and 9:16 PM Local Time: PHEW!! What a brilliant match we have witnessed here at the Bay Oval!! Northern Brave had a torrid middle over phase and then they came back in some style with a tactical move of retiring out two struggling batters. Pomare and Kuggeleijn bailed them out of the trouble. But the latter failed to finish the game on a winning note and ended up levelling the scores.

Otago were sent to bat first after losing the toss and they got a sedate start as Llew Johnson scored 12 off 14 balls but Jamal Todd kept the scoreboard moving with three maximums in his 32-run innings off 27 balls. He added 54 runs for the second wicket with Max Chu. Chu was the star of the Otago batting. He held the innings together while his partners had a tough time in finding the boundaries. Jack Boyle got 24 runs from 20 balls with a maximum but the rest of the batters didn't cross the two figure mark. Max Chu remained unbeaten with 64 runs beside his name from 42 balls hitting 5 fours and a maximum.

For the Northern Brave, Tim Pringle and Henry Cooper took a couple of wickets each. Scott Kuggeleijn and Kristian Clarke took a wicket each.

Coming to chase the 167-run target, Northern Brave got off to a good start as Katene Clarke hit three boundaries off the first over of Hazeldine. But after that, Joe Carter found it difficult to go on and the Brave lost both of their openers for 19 and 17 respectively. Brett Hampton was the reason they put up some runs on the board. Hampton hit 3 fours and a couple of maximums to score 35 off 30 balls. The struggle for the Brave started when Jeet Raval and Xavier Bell was batting in the middle. They batted for 32 balls to add just 27 on the board and played 22 balls sans any boundary.

When the asking rate was over 14, management decided to retire Raval (23 off 28) out first and sent Ben Pomare in. Pomare got off the mark with a maximum and proved the decision correct. In the next over, they retired out Xavier Bell (9 off 13) and sent Scott Kuggeleijn in. Kuggeleijn followed the path of his skipper and smacked a maximum in his first ball. The pair of Pomare and Kuggeleijn added 24 off 10 balls before Pomare got out.

19 runs were required off the final over. Danru Ferns started with a no-ball and Kuggeleijn got a free-hit next ball. He hit a boundary on that and Ferns made a good comeback in the next ball and brought the equation to 11 off 3. Kuggeleijn hit back to back boundaries in the next two balls and the equation was 3 required from the final ball. Kuggeleijn however could take just a couple and ended the game by levelling the scores. His cameo knock of 34 off 12 balls stood between Otago and victory.

For the Otago team, Ben Lockrose took 2 wickets for 24 runs. Andrew Hazeldine and Matthew Bacon took a wicket each.

SO WE HAVE A TIE!!! Scott Kuggeleijn you beauty! Kuggeleijn doesn't go hard at it and instead he pushes it towards the deep. He completes the second run and gets to the crease before Max Chu whipped off the bails. There's no super over and this match ends up being tied. WHAT A FIRST SUNDAY OF THE YEAR!!

2 They have tied this one! What a shame that we have no Super Over in the round robin games! Fullish ball on the stumps, Kuggeleijn drills it to the long off fielder. They come back for a quick two. Kuggeleijn you absolute genius! He has brought this game back out of the grave. A match that was well lost has turned into a tie. Brave have saved themselves some points here!
