That’s all from this game! Afghanistan secure a dominant win to open their account in the Tri-Series. Up next, a crucial clash tomorrow where they face the table-toppers — a contest you won’t want to miss.

For now, this is Pritam Dey signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Ninaad Dixit who, along with scorers/analysts Bishal Mandal & Chandan Kr Singh brought all the actions of this clash. Stay tuned for more cricketing action from around the world.
Rashid Khan (Afghanistan Captain): "Well, that's a tough question. For me, you need to have two main spinners. You can't have 3-4 main spinners in a team. Noor Ahmad & Ghazanfar are also in the bench, who are top magicians for Afghanistan cricket. It's a tough ask but you have to go with two frontline spinners that's me and Mujeeb. Nabi is there, Ashraf performed well today.

Picking Ashraf was a tough decision today over Ghazanfar and Noor. We wanted to have some batting depth in our XI. So, that's why we went for Ashraf.

Well I feel you know, you need to keep things simple. For me, it's very important. You need to bowl at the right lengths. Some batters will hit you for boundaries but most of the times you will get wickets. As a spinner, you need to hit the right areas.

(On the batting unit) Well, that has been the story of Afghanistan cricket over the years. The top 4 have been taking a lot of responsibilities over the years. It was tough batting there early in the innings but they didn't lose their wickets. They adapted to the conditions and knew that batting would become easier as the innings progresses. Maturity was shown by the batters and it made me really well.

(On their game tomorrow) We are always well prepared. Whenever you have games with big teams after a long time, you need to adjust yourself as quickly as you can. Our previous game was a wakeup call. We will bring our best game tomorrow."
Muhammad Waseem (UAE Captain): "We did not bowl well in the last 10 overs and conceded so many runs. We were going well until 8-9 overs. We lost 2 key wickets including mine and lost the plot.

I am not happy with my knock because I did not finish. I always try to think one ball ahead of the bowler and that's why I am picking the ball early.

We will take the positive points from this game as well. We are conceding lot of runs in the last 10 overs and we will look to improve."
Sharafuddin Ashraf (Player of the Match): "First of all, thanks to everyone who come out in numbers to support us in a difficult time. I think we have a very good spin department, good magicians in our bowling line-up. So, the way Rashid trusted me on my abilities, I am very much thankful. We do everything that's needed for the team.

I think it depends on the situation of the game. I always try to give my best whenever the captain hands over the ball to me. I have a lot of experience bowling in the powerplay and also outside the powerplay.

I think if you look at our spin department, Mohammad Nabi is a master of it. He changes his pace brilliantly. He always creates magic off the pitch.

No, I have got a POTM award on my Debut as well. Of course, it's a great occasion for me. Thanks to Rashid Khan, who supported me in a very difficult time. There was a lot of hard work behind this over the years."

12:02 AM IST & 10:32 PM Local Time: That’s it from Sharjah! Rahul Chopra showed great fight at the end, raising his fifty with a six off the final ball, but it was too late to change the result. Afghanistan clinch their first win of the Tri-Series, outplaying UAE by 38 runs in a commanding performance.

Earlier in the day, UAE won the toss and elected to bowl first. Their pacers found some swing and seam early on, and Rohid Khan struck inside the powerplay to dismiss Gurbaz for just 7. Afghanistan then rebuilt through Ibrahim Zadran and Sediqullah Atal, who put together a solid 84-run stand. Atal was the aggressor early, with Zadran shifting gears later, but the partnership was broken when Saghir Khan got rid of Atal for a well-made 54.

Darwish Rasooli arrived at number 4, began with a delightful lofted straight drive, but couldn’t carry on and fell for 10. Ibrahim Zadran anchored the innings superbly, notching up his 9th T20I half-century before departing for a well-compiled 63 off 40 balls. Late fireworks came from Azmatullah Omarzai (20* off 12) and Karim Janat (23* off 10), powering Afghanistan to a commanding 188/4 in their 20 overs. For UAE, Rohid Khan (2/34) and Saghir Khan (2/52) shared the spoils with two wickets each.

Chasing 189, UAE knew they had to make the most of the Powerplay before the Afghan spinners came into play. Their intent was clear right from the start. Zuhaib Khan fell early for 7 to Fazalhaq Farooqi, but skipper Muhammad Waseem took charge with a breathtaking counterattack. He stood tall, timing the ball beautifully and kept the scoreboard ticking at a rapid pace. Ethan D’Souza gave him solid support from the other end, rotating strike well. By the end of 6 overs, UAE found themselves in a commanding position at 66/1.

Rashid Khan turned the game on its head in his second over, dismissing Ethan D’Souza for 12 and breaking the steady partnership. From there, UAE’s innings unraveled. The big blow came when Sharafuddin Ashraf sent back the in-form Muhammad Waseem for a blazing 67 off 37 balls, and with that, Afghanistan tightened their grip. From a strong 76/1, UAE slipped to 112/7, losing wickets in clusters as the pressure mounted and the required rate kept climbing. Rashid Khan led his side brilliantly in the field, while both he and Sharafuddin Ashraf picked up three wickets each. Eventually, UAE managed only 150/8, falling 38 runs short of the target. Stay tuned for the Post-Match Presentation!
