That's all that we have for the coverage of the match between Australia Champions and South Africa Champions with the latter sealing their spot in the Grand Finale of WCL 2025.
This is me Aditya Agarwal signing off on behalf of Saptak Sanyal and scorer/analyst Zeeshan Naiyer. BYE, CHEERS!!
AB de Villiers (South Africa Champions Captain):"I just told Binga that he is not done. Ignore what he said (chuckles). Aussies have played so well and I respect them. A great game of cricket!
I think we have really good spinners. Tahir and Phangiso are the bowlers whom nobody wants to face first up. The way they batted was good. The wicket might have played a touch better.
(On Chris Lynn's catch) The catch might not look extravagant on camera but let me tell you, that was not easy. I turned the wrong way and the wind drifted across. I wasn't in my cent percent control but managed to take it. (On the last ball) I just told Brett. He knows my hamstring injury. My body was a bit numb and considering that, it might be the best throw of my life. I am very proud of my boys. We are proud as South Africans. We are resilent as a nation.
I think we have had a lot of fun during this trip. We have lost a lot of semi-finals in the past. It was nice to come out. Yes, it is not something like that world cup but yes it matters. Pakistan are going to be a tough opponent. They are going to throw tough challenge."
Brett Lee (Australia Champions Captain) : "Yeah, that's what happens in T20 Cricket. Congratulations to AB de Villiers and his side. I think the score could have been chased down. The credit goes to the South African team. I am done sadly. I made the call at the start of this tournament. I enjoyed every single moment of it. It is always pleasure to play this sport."
Wayne Parnell (Player of the Match):" (On bowling the death over) I think this is something I've done doing throughout my career. Somedays I ended up in the wrong side but happy to do it today. I think for me it was all about setting up a nice sequence. I wanted to bowl five good balls after that six. Credits should go to Short and Christian for taking the game deep. It was 3 off the last ball, 2 would've led to the bowl out. At the end of the conversation with ABD, I tried to bowl a decent ball and ABD stopped it.
These are the guys whom I watched while growing up. I enjoy the banter among the team. The dressing room is really good."
Player of the Match: Wayne Parnell
Game Changer of the Match: Morne van Wyk
Best Fielder of the Match: AB de Villiers
Time for the post-match presentations.
12:17 AM IST & 07:47 PM Local Time | PHEW! What a thrilling match we just had. South Africa Champions hold their nerves in the end and secure their spot in the Grand Finale of the WCL 2025, beating Australia Champions by 1 run.
Earlier, South Africa Champions won the toss and opted to bat first. They put on a above par score of 186/8 on the board on the back of JJ Smuts (57 off 41 balls) and Morne van Wyk (76 off 35 balls).
Peter Siddle bowled extremely well as he bagged 4 wickets to his name and gave away just 30 runs in his quota of 4 overs.
Chasing 187, Chris Lynn and Shaun Marsh got their side to a rollicking start. They smashed 45 runs in 4.3 overs before the former was dismissed by Wayne Parnell.
Shaun Marsh looked well with his knock of 25 runs off 17 balls but he has removed shortly after by Parnell too. D'Arcy Short and Ben Dunk then took their time to settle in. However, the latter got out in the 12th over leaving his side tumbling at 97-3.
Daniel Christian then walked in and put up a breezy 33-run stand for the fourth wicket to keep their side at bay along-with D'Arcy Short. After the demise of D'Arcy Short, Daniel Christian took responsibility in his hands.
With 58 runs needed in 30 balls, Daniel Christian took charge and smashed some lusty blows. He got his side back into the game.
With 14 runs needed off the last over, Rob Quiney struck a six off the first ball. Parnell then bowled magnificently and did not give any freebies. With 3 runs needed off the last ball, Daniel Christian mistimed his hit towards long-on and in the pursuit of a second run his partner got run-out, eventually falling short of 1 run.
