That's it from our coverage of Day 2 of the Ranji Trophy match between Bengal and Gujarat. This is Mohammad Anab, signing off on behalf of my colleagues Deepak Prakash, Saptak Sanyal, and Danish Elahi. Cheers.
Session Summary of Day 2:

First Session:
29.4 Overs, 88 Runs, 6 Wickets

Second Session: 28 Overs, 48 Runs, 4 Wickets

Third Session: 4.3 Overs, 6 Runs, 0 Wicket
4:05 PM IST and Local Time: The imminent has happened. It is stumps on day 2. Entire Eden Gardens is under the covers. It is not raining now but the light is extremely poor. Gujarat will continue their innings tomorrow from 107/7.

The day started with Bengal resuming their innings at 244/7 with Sumanta Gupta and Akash Deep unbeaten at the crease. However, Gupta couldn't stay in the middle for long and got dismissed for 63. After his dismissal, Akash Deep stitched a useful partnership with Mohammed Shami (8*) before getting dismissed for a useful 29.

In the end, Bengal finished their innings at 279, thanks to half-centuries from three of its batters, namely Gupta, Sudi Gharami and Abhishek Porel. Siddharth was the best bowler for Gujarat, picking up four wickets while Chintan Gaja and Priyajeet Jadeja took two wickets apiece.

In reply, Gujarat batters struggled right from the start against Bengal seamers in overcast conditions. The opening duo of Abhishek Desai and Aarya Desai, who played so well in the last game against Assam, got out for 0 and 8, respectively. Siddharth Desai, who was good with the ball, was not able to cope with the swing bowling and got dismissed for 19.

After his dismissal, it seemed that Gujarat skipper Manan Hingrajia and his partner, Umang Kumar, were on course to stitch a big partnership but then started the Shahbaz Ahmed show. The left-arm spinner dismissed Umang and then took three more wickets in quick succession to completely dismantle Gujarat's innings. Shahbaz Ahmed made the ball turn and bounce, and currently has a brilliant figure of 4/17 in the innings.

By the time play was called off due to bad light at the start of the evening session, Gujarat was struggling at 107/7. Skipper Hingrajia (41*) has been the only Gujarat batter so far to score more than 20 runs. The side is still trailing by 172 runs and will need some extraordinary effort tomorrow from Hingrajia and Chintan Gaja to cover the deficit.
4 PM IST, Local Time: The entire sky is looking very gloomy. Groundsmen have covered the ground with white covers and any chance of resumption today is looking bleak.
3:33 PM IST, Local Time: The groundsmen are bringing on the covers now. They have already covered the pitch. It's highly unlikely that the game will resume today.
3:23 PM IST, Local Time: Umpires are checking their light meters and have suspended the play due to bad light. It has become quite dark at the Eden Gardens. On-mic commentator claims that once the light drops in Kolkata, it generally doesn't get any better. However, we are keeping our fingers crossed, hoping that the play might start soon.
