4:43 PM: That’s it. The Ranji Trophy 2025-26 fixture between Saurashtra and Karnataka ends in a draw. A hard-fought game this one and Saurashtra walk away three points, thanks to the first-innings lead of four runs. Karnataka tried hard but will have to settle with a point.
Let’s have a recap of this fixture. In the first morning, Karnataka won the toss and opted to bat first. Devdutt Padikkal (96), Karun Nair (73), Smaran Ravichandran (77) and Shreyas Gopal (56) notched up well-composed fifties. But they kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
Debutant Shikhar Shetty played a fighting knock of 41 at number nine before the visitors got knocked over on 372. Dharmendra Jadeja was brilliant with the ball for Saurashtra, registering magnificent figures of 7/124.
In reply, Harvik Desai (41), Chirag Jani (90), Arpit Vasavada (58) and Sammar Gajjar (45) contributed but Karnataka kept chipping in with regular wickets. It was the last-wicket pair of Chetan Sakariya (29) and Yuvrajsinh Dodiya (13*) that helped Saurashtra get the all-important first-innings lead.
Sakariya and Dodiya stitched a 34-run partnership for the tenth wicket as Saurashtra got bowled out on 376, after getting a slender lead of four runs. For Karnataka, all the damage won done by the spinners, with Shreyas Gopal finishing with eight scalps to his name.
Skipper Mayank Agarwal stood tall for Karnataka in their second innings. He notched up a fifty but the other batters failed to contribute. M Venkatesh (28) and Mohsin Khan (17) frustrated the hosts with a 51-run stand for the ninth wicket before Karnataka got bundled out on 232, setting a target of 229.
