Milestone
What an absolute thriller we've witnessed here tonight! The Pretoria Capitals have emerged victorious in a nail-biting, final-over finish, defeating the Durban Super Giants by a margin of 15 runs. It was a spectacular contest that went right down to the wire, showcasing the very best of T20 cricket. The focus now shifts to the next exciting fixture of the tournament, which will see the Joburg Super Giants take on the Paarl Royals in Johannesburg tomorrow, on the 8th of January, 2025. On behalf of my esteemed co-commentators, Utsav and Manan, and our diligent scorer and analyst Zeeshan Naiyer, this is Tarun signing off. Thank you for joining us for this fantastic encounter, and we look forward to your company again soon. CIAO!
Keshav Maharaj (Pretoria Capitals Captain): "100%. It is still home for me. Just in different colors and another opportunity for me. Very pleased with that performance against a very strong DSG side.

I think Shai and Connor started us off beautifully. The other guys then just chipped in. Then I feel, Roston showed some great nerves to close it out against one of the best batters in the world.

We all know that when you have a set batter Durban, it is not over till it is over. Jos showed us that. He took it to the last over. If they had another batter, it could be very different. So, we never thought it was over till we actually won.

The response we got from the previous game was important for us. The way we executed today made me very happy. A slow start to the tournament for us. Hopefully, we find some momentum and stride forward with confidence in the upcoming games."
Shai Hope (Player of the match): "Well we won, so we enjoyed more this time. Coming to South Africa for the first time, playing in these conditions are a bit foreign to me, but always good to contribute in victories and yeah had fun today. I always like to put my hand up for the team.

(On preferred batting position) Look in T20 cricket when only 2 fielders are outside the circle and we look to maximize the powerplay as much as we can, so if I had to choose, I would probably choose opening the batting.

(On his strength) It is very important to understand your strength in this format, especially the game can go by pretty quickly and you have to find a way to not panic. But, I think adaptability is the biggest thing for me over the last few years, just progressing my way, looking to find ways to improve whether it is striking, whether it is manipulating the ball a bit more. I think it is more so understanding what the bowler is planning against you and then find your ways to score and try to limit as many dot balls and whenever you get the bad one, put it away and keep the scoreboard ticking.

(On the most difficult thing about the wicket) Honestly, I think pace off on this surface, sometimes it would grip more and sometimes it would bounce a bit more. Just as I said, adapting as quickly as I can and try not to allow that particular delivery to bock me down for too long.

(On having different conditions in different venues) We have got that challenge back in the Caribbean, everywhere we travel, there is something different, so like I said, adaptability is the biggest thing for me and as long as I can adapt as quick as I can and trust what I have been doing in training and practice and find my ways to score runs and maximize that potential in the middle."

Aiden Markram (Durban Super Giants skipper): (On being asked if he was entirely surprised by the final total) "Not entirely, no. I still firmly believe a team can chase 200 on that wicket. Given the small boundary and the quality surface, I was absolutely backing our side to chase that total down."

(On the challenge of requiring a high run rate towards the end of an innings) "Obviously, it's always going to require something brilliant to score 20-plus in the final two overs, but I have enough faith in our batters to take care of that often enough. I'm sure you can find those gaps in the field, maybe 15 or 20 runs on both sides of the wicket, and the situation looks quite different afterwards."

(On the decision-making process for batting first or chasing) "It's a matter of basing the decision solely on the conditions. From a batting point of view, we possess enough experience and power to control games, whether we're batting first or chasing. So, it's not a major concern for us, at least not at the moment."

(On reflecting on the loss and areas for improvement) "We backed ourselves tonight, but we definitely needed to execute better and do some damage with our performance moving forward. Knowing what we know now, we should have been 5-10 per cent better, which would have put the team in a better position at the end of the night. I'm always upset with a loss, naturally, but each guy will take their lessons from this. We will collaborate, pull everything together tomorrow, and take it on again in two days."
