It’s been a superb all-round performance from the Joburg Super Kings as they make it two wins from two in the tournament. The Durban Super Giants, meanwhile, have a unique run of fixtures this season, facing each opponent in back-to-back matches, home and away. These two sides will lock horns once again in the reverse fixture on Thursday, 1st January 2026, this time in Johannesburg.
For now, this is Pritam Dey signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Deepak Prakash who, along with scorer/analyst Yogesh Kumar & statistician Aman brought all the updates of this clash. Stay tuned for more cricketing action from around the world. BYE BYE👋
Prenelan Subrayen (Player of the Match): "I think we are probably used to having these kind of wickets in white ball cricket here in Kingsmead for the Dolphins. So, it kind of looked very much familiar to me.
I think the combination of the team is really good right from the top to bottom. We are just mentally and tactically smart."
Player of the Match: Prenelan Subrayen
Faf du Plessis (Joburg Super Kings Captain): "I’m not sure. It was obviously nice to know what you’re chasing, but it certainly wasn’t easy batting there in the second innings. It was a scrappy win, but obviously a bonus point on the road. I thought exactly that — both those guys (Conway & Williamson) are timers of the ball and like pace on it, so I wanted to throw something at them that would make them hit the ball on a surface that was a little bit sloppy. The spinners were exceptional. Subrayen, coming in for his first game at his home ground, knows it really well, and that was part of our thinking. Finger spinners generally get a bit more out of slow surfaces, and he was very good today. Harmer was outstanding as well — the ball was really biting in the second innings and turning sharply. There was some quality spin bowling on display tonight, and we’re pleased we were able to get across the line.
Yeah, I don’t think he (Matthew de Villiers) was expecting to keep this season at all, but I did warn him yesterday at practice. I said, ‘Look, this might be an opportunity for you,’ and in T20 cricket you have to think a little bit out of the box. You need to be versatile and make decisions from a keeping perspective. On a wicket like that, with someone like Donovan Ferreira, how many balls is the keeper really going to catch? For me, it was about making sure we kept forcing them to hit the ball. The surface looked a bit slow — it was probably hard to bat against the seamers as well — but I really felt the spinners were the toughest to get away."

Aiden Markram (Durban Super Giants Captain): "Yeah, we read that wicket horribly wrong, to be honest. It looked good to the eye, played nicely a couple of days ago, and we thought it would be pretty similar, but we were caught off guard. They bowled in the right areas, and we made it tough for ourselves. So we were definitely a few runs short tonight, but we’ll take those lessons and move forward.
I think around 120 would have given us a pretty good fight. Having said that, the guys started really well — early wickets always give you half a chance, I suppose. Rilee Rossouw played a really good innings and took the game away from us. But I’m still proud of the effort with the ball in the end.
Yeah, we’ve got a lot of experience in the sheds, especially from a batting point of view, and those guys know exactly what they’re doing. So we’ll leave it to them, trust the boys, and hopefully find a way to win the next one."
11:49 PM IST & 8:19 PM Local Time: It’s been a commanding and clinical performance from the Joburg Super Kings here in Durban as they thump the Durban Super Giants by 6 wickets, with 46 balls to spare. The Men in Yellow dominate the contest from start to finish and also walk away with the all-important bonus point.
Earlier in the day, Aiden Markram won the toss and had no hesitation in opting to bat first. What followed was a disastrous start for the Durban Super Giants, as Prenelan Subrayen, who made his debut for JSK, ran through their top order. Bowling with great control, he struck three times in his first three overs, removing Devon Conway, Kane Williamson and Jos Buttler inside the powerplay and putting DSG firmly on the back foot.
Durban Super Giants continued to lose wickets in clusters throughout the innings and never managed to build any sort of momentum. It was a smart move from veteran Faf du Plessis at the end of the powerplay, as he brought Donovan Ferreira into the attack after Ferreira handed over the wicketkeeping duties to Matthew de Villiers. Ferreira made an immediate impact, removing the dangerous Heinrich Klaasen in his very first over. Aiden Markram top-scored for DSG with a labored 22 off 27 balls, but the story remained the same as wickets kept tumbling. Durban Super Giants were eventually bundled out for just 86 in 17.1 overs, with only three batters managing to reach double figures. 3 wickets apiece for Richard Gleeson (3/2) and Prenelan Subrayen (3/16).
In reply, Durban Super Giants came out with plenty of energy and gave it everything inside the powerplay, with the home crowd right behind them. They struck early as both JSK openers, Faf du Plessis and Matthew de Villiers, were dismissed cheaply within the first six overs. Wiaan Mulder then fell for just 1 in the final over of the powerplay, briefly opening the door for the hosts.
However, Rilee Rossouw and Shubham Ranjane ensured there were no further hiccups in what turned out to be a straightforward chase. The duo stitched together a crucial fourth-wicket partnership of 51 runs off 36 balls, effectively taking the game away from the Super Giants. Donovan Ferreira then walked in at number 6 and finished the job in style, striking back-to-back boundaries as Joburg Super Kings sealed a 6-wicket win and claimed the bonus point.
