Brisbane Heat stay alive in the competition. Hobart Hurricanes, meanwhile, finish the league stage on a losing note. They will have to get back to the drawing board quickly as it was their game to lose at one point and they have ended on the wrong side after a thrilling contest in Hobart. This season of BBL just keeps delivering.

It was pleasure bringing you all the updates from this contest. Keep joining us for more cricketing action all around the globe. For now, this is Akshay Bhide, signing off, on behalf of my co-commentator Dev Rajawat and scorer Ashok Dayma. Until next time, cheers and good bye.
Matthew Kuhnemann (Player of the Match): "Oh, it was incredible. I was actually just cracking a few jokes with Jack at third man, but what he did was unbelievable. He was so calm under pressure. He’s been outstanding around the group over the last couple of games, so I’m really pleased for him and for everyone. Another great game of Big Bash cricket - a seriously intense contest.

Yeah, absolutely. They were probably in the box seat. I think it was seven needed off six balls - you’d back the batting side there. To pull off an over like that is just incredible. Even the over before was huge, with a couple of wickets falling. I’m honestly a bit lost for words. It was just a fantastic game of cricket.

Yeah, I really am. It helps a lot when you’re bowling alongside someone like Xavier. Whenever you get the chance to bowl with those guys, it makes your job a bit easier. I’m really enjoying my time out there.

Yeah, for sure. Everyone knows where we stand on the ladder. We knew how important this game was. That’s two wins on the trot now, and we’ve got another massive game coming up. We’ll try to keep winning and keep ourselves alive heading into the final round."

5:05 PM IST, 10:35 PM Local Time: That's it. Zaman Khan holds his nerves and wins it for his side. Brisbane Heat have snatched a win from the jaws of defeat. PHEW!!! How did we even get here? With 20 required from 18 with six wickets in hand, it felt like this game was done. But somehow Hobart Hurricanes have bottled this chase and have fallen short by three runs. Brisbane Heat emerge victorious and keep themselves alive in Big Bash League (BBL) 2025-26.

The Hurricanes lost both their openers in Tim Ward (1) and Mitchell Owen (8) cheaply inside the powerplay. Ben McDermott joined Beau Webster and both led the recovery work. Both played some beautiful strokes and kept Heat at bay. At the halfway mark, the Hurricanes were well-placed at 88/2.

McDermott raced past his fifty in just 25 balls. Webster at the other end also brought up his fifty off 40 balls. Marnus Labuschagne broke the 98-run stand by dismissing Webster (51) in the 15th over. In the next, Matthew Kuhnemann got rid of McDermott (59).

Nikhil Chaudhary and Matthew Wade kept ticking the scoreboard before the latter fell on 11, with his side requiring 11 runs to win. Rehan Ahmed and Chris Jordan registered ducks in the penultimate over. The game went down the wire and the Hurricanes required seven to win from the final over.

Zaman Khan bowled beautifully and conceded only a single in the first four balls. On the next, Chaudhary holed out in the deep on 16. With five required from the final ball, Rishad Hossain only managed to pick up a single as the Hurricanes fell short by three runs. For Heat, Xavier Bartlett (3/44) and Matthew Kuhnemann (2/24) picked up three and two wickets respectively but it was Zaman Khan who held his nerves and defended seven runs in the final over.

Earlier, Heat were put into bat and they lost Jack Wildermuth (6) inside the powerplay. Skipper Usman Khawaja looked scratchy for his 19 before he holed out in the deep in the seventh over. Nathan McSweeney along with Matt Renshaw steadied the ship with a wonderful 64-run stand.

Renshaw (37) and McSweeney (49) fell in a quick succession and it allowed the Hurricanes to pull back things. Max Bryant scored a 14-ball 21 before getting cleaned up in the 18th over. Things went downhill for Heat at the back end of the innings.

A flurry of wickets in the death overs meant that Heat finished their innings on 160/8. Riley Meredith (3/40) picked up three wickets for the Hurricanes whereas Nathan Ellis (2/31) and Rishad Hossain (2/27) picked up two each. In reply, they failed to close out the game as they fell agonizingly short by three runs.
