After a clinical performance in the series opener, New Zealand Women will be keen to extend their lead when they face South Africa Women in the second T20I of the five-match series at Seddon Park in Hamilton on Tuesday (March 17).

Skipper Amelia Kerr led the way for the hosts in the first T20I, top-scoring with a brilliant 78. She stitched together a 146-run stand for the second wicket with Georgia Plimmer after Izzy Gaze was run out off the first ball of the match.

Plimmer was eventually dismissed for 63. Sophie Devine (12), Brooke Halliday (13) and Maddy Green (10) all fell while trying to accelerate as the White Ferns finished with 190 for seven in their 20 overs.

For South Africa, Masabata Klaas and Nadine de Klerk picked up two wickets each, while Ayabonga Khaka and Nonkululeko Mlaba chipped in with one apiece.

In reply, Tazmin Brits and Sune Luus opened the innings and added 17 runs before Luus was dismissed. Captain Laura Wolvaardt endured a rare failure as she fell for a three-ball duck to Jess Kerr.

Brits top-scored with 29, while Annerie Dercksen (7) and Chloe Tryon (9) failed to make an impact. De Klerk (19) and Kayla Reyneke (24*) showed some resistance, but the visitors eventually finished with 110 for seven from their 20 overs.

Devine starred with the ball, producing a brilliant spell of four for 12 in four overs. Jess Kerr picked up two wickets, while Amelia Kerr bowled an economical spell, conceding just 24 runs from her four overs.
