It’s been a familiar story here in Colombo with rain causing delays, but thankfully we got a result tonight. Credit to the ground staff who’ve worked tirelessly throughout the tournament. South Africa Women have dominated Pakistan Women, winning by 150 runs. The Proteas surge to the top of the points table, while Pakistan languish at the bottom and are officially knocked out of the tournament.

Join us tomorrow for a thrilling encounter all the way from Indore as arch-rivals Australia take on England. For now, this is Pritam Dey signing off on behalf of my co-commentator AkshayaKrishna Polya who, along with scorer/analyst Zeeshan Naiyer & statistician Aman brought all the updates of this clash. Stay tuned for more cricketing action from around the world. BYE BYE👋
Laura Wolvaardt (South Africa Women Captain): "Yeah, pretty good. I think scoring 312 in 40 overs is very nice for us. Performances were all around for us. Kapp was good in the middle. Nadine was sensational at the end. It was nice to see everyone chipping in different situations for us.

Yeah, it was pretty close to being a complete performance. We had someone batting through in the top order, someone controlling the middle order. Sune batted really well. We had a big 100-plus partnership as well. Then that big finish. We ticked nearly all boxes. Happy with our performance after being sent into bat.

We thought that our seamers would be big up front. When we were batting, there was a little bit in it for the seamers. We just thought that Kapp and Khaka would be doing excellently with the new ball. They picked up wickets up front and got the DLS target falling completely in our favour. Yeah, Kapp was amazing with the ball.

Yeah! Luckily, we played all 4 spinners today. Time-wise, to say the least. It helped us to run through the overs at the end there. Otherwise, Nadine would have had to bowl a few overs from a short run-up (chuckles). They were good tonight. They had to do a bit of speed bowling towards the end. It was nice seeing them have a bowl."
Fatima Sana (Pakistan Captain): "I think today was the day our bowlers didn't perform well. We have to accept that. I think the way they (South Africa) played was just awesome. We need to be a bit more calm under such situations.

I think before the rain break and after the rain break, the scenario was totally different. The conditions changed completely. We didn't bat well too. The conditions got very difficult for us to bowl as well after the rain break.

We just tried to bowl on the stumps and good length. The bowlers didn't execute their plans. We wanted to be accurate but it didn't work out at all for us tonight.

We still believed to chase down the target at the halfway stage of the game. The pitch was looking good and with the way they played in the first innings, the surface looked easy to bat. We failed to build partnerships.

We just need to be more calm under such situations. We need to back ourselves and play our natural game. Some of our batters didn't believe on themselves."
Marizanne Kapp (POTM): "Thanks to the Almighty for helping me out there. It was a beautiful wicket to bat on, but I was a bit annoyed that it wasn't a full 50-over game. I had a lot of fun out there. I didn't think too much in the middle. Wolvaardt and Luus set the platform for us. Luus was really positive and made it easier for us to play our natural game once we reached the middle. We just took a few balls to get in, then played our natural game.

Actually, I enjoy batting at number 5 (chuckles). I felt like I didn't do well at number 4, even though I batted there before. I asked the skipper and coach to move me down to 5. I had a bit of a game plan. I love batting with the lower order as well. It worked for us tonight.

To be honest, I wasn't happy with my bowling tonight. I didn't bowl too well. I bowled well in previous games in comparison to tonight, but I was lucky to get some rewards. I would love to play on this wicket a bit more. This was a different wicket from the one we played against Sri Lanka. Just happy with the win tonight.

Khaka has been superb for us. We saw how well Klaas bowled in the last game. I feel like everyone is bowling well.Hopefully, everything gets together for us as we go forward."
Player of the Match: Marizanne Kapp
STAT ATTACK: This is the first time that South Africa Women have won 5 matches in a row in the ODI World Cup. Their previous longest winning streak in the ODI World Cup was winning 4 consecutive matches in 2022.
11:08 PM IST & Local Time: That’s it then! South Africa continue their sensational run with their fifth straight win, climbing to the top of the points table. A thumping 150-run victory hands Pakistan a heavy defeat and knocks them out of the tournament.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan won the toss and elected to bowl first, and Fatima Sana gave them an early breakthrough by removing Tazmin Brits for a duck in just the second over. However, rain interrupted play just as Sadia Iqbal was about to deliver the third over, leading to multiple delays. The game was first reduced to 42 overs per side and then further shortened to 40 after played spoilsport for more than two hours. Once play resumed, South Africa regained control as Laura Wolvaardt and Sune Luus put on a superb 118-run stand for the second wicket. The duo brought up their fifties before Sune Luus fell for 61 to Nashra Sandhu. Dercksen was run out cheaply, and Wolvaardt missed out on a well deserved hundred by just 10 runs after being dismissed by Nashra Sandhu. Sandhu struck again in the same over to dismiss Karabo Meso.

Chloe Tryon's brisk 21 came to an end as she was stumped by Pakistan wicket-keeper Sidra Nawaz. Marizanne Kapp and Nadine de Klerk tore into Pakistan’s bowling, adding a stunning 52-run partnership for the seventh wicket. De Klerk continued her fine form with a fiery 41 off just 16 balls, while Kapp remained unbeaten on 68 from 43 deliveries. Pakistan were sloppy in the field as South Africa posted a formidable 312/9, and with DLS adjustments, Pakistan were set a revised target of 306 in 40 overs. 3 wickets apiece for Sadia Iqbal (3/63) and Nashra Sandhu (3/45)

Pakistan’s chase got off to a disastrous start as they kept losing wickets early. Muneeba Ali was dismissed in just the second over for 5 by Ayabonga Khaka. Marizanne Kapp then ran through the top order, striking three times inside the first nine overs to remove Omaima Sohail, Sidra Ameen, and Aliya Riaz, leaving Pakistan reeling at 35/4.

Just as they looked to rebuild, rain returned to disrupt proceedings once again. The match was halted for nearly an hour, with conditions fluctuating as the rain stopped and started multiple times. During the interruptions, the target kept changing — first to 299 in 37 overs, then to 270 in 27 overs, and finally to 262 in 25 overs. Players managed to get back on the field for a brief two-over period before the skies opened up again, forcing another stoppage in the game.

Finally, with less than five minutes to go before the cut-off, the ground staff managed to get the field ready just in time. The revised target for Pakistan Women was 234 in 20 overs, but South Africa raced through the first 8 overs in no time. Pakistan struggled throughout, losing wickets at regular intervals and were eventually restricted to 83/7 in their allotted overs, going down by a massive 150 runs. With this win, South Africa climb to the top of the table, while Pakistan are eliminated from the tournament. Stay tuned for the Post-Match Presentation!
