Tonight, the fans of Pakistan's women's team will go to bed thinking of what could have been. They seemed on course to beat England at the World Cup before rain came to the rescue of the former champions.

Going ahead, Sciver-Brunt and co. will have some questions to answer. They might still be undefeated in the tournament, but remember, their toughest fixtures — against Australia, India and New Zealand — are coming up next. Hence, today's performance will sting a bit more.

We hope that, despite the rain breaks, you enjoyed the coverage as much as we did bringing it to you. Do join us tomorrow for Australia Women vs Bangladesh Women. For now, this is the troika of Darpan Tikiya, Ajay Raghava and Bishal Mandal saying goodbye! See you soon.
10:06 PM IST, local time: Weather plays spoilsport for the second successive day in Colombo. Pakistan's ambitions of trouncing the four time champions have been ruined by rain.

Remember, coming into this match, both teams were on streaks of their own. England on a winning spree, while Sana and co. on a losing one. Hence, most Pakistan fans would have been pretty happy had they been told before the start of the match that their team could walk away with a point today. However, at this moment, they must be feeling the pain of missing out on the second. And that is a testimony to the impressive performance put in by their team.

The captain led the way. After electing to bowl first, Fatima Sana put a masterclass on display. She ran in hard, hit the right areas and got the ball to seam in awkwardly off the pitch. While most batters were guilty of losing their wickets due to misjudgement of line or length, Sana dismissed the heavyweights with some top-class stuff. Natalie Sciver-Brunt got a pearler, whereas Heather Knight was subjected to multiple close LBW calls. Even today, DRS came to her rescue twice. But the Pakistan skipper kept on asking tough questions and eventually Knight succumbed to it.

Left arm spinner Saida Iqbal impressed too as she accounted for the wickets of Emma Lamb and Sophia Dunkley. Diana Baig and Rameen Shamim picked one each. If not for Charlie Dean's gritty 33 and Em Arlott's stubborn 18, the final reading could have been much worse.

The reason why the match being called off will hurt Pakistan even more is because they had begun strongly even with their weaker suit — batting. Omaima Sohail had set the tone with some fluent front foot drives while Muneeba Ali exhibited stubbornness at the other end. At 34/0, in a chase of 113 (adjusted via DLS method), they had started dreaming of an upset. However, it was not to be.
Fatima Sana (Pakistan Women captain): "I think today was the day we could have beaten them. This pitch was good for pacers. But it was a good chance for us. I saw lot of performances on this track. So I knew this pitch was good for fast bowlers. So I tried to bowl in good areas and target the stumps. But I would have been happier if we would have won the match.

Muneeba and Omaima batted well today. In last two matches, we did well in bowling. We need to improve in our batting. Hopefully, we will do that."
Nat Sciver-Brunt (England Women Captain): "Pakistan bowled brilliantly. Fatima and Diana bowled really well and made it hard for us to get into the game at all. The rain break came in, I thought Charlie and Em batted well in the last 6 overs period to get to that total. Today, we were not good enough. Pakistan bowled well. Conditions changed when we had the ball in our hands as well.

Probably adapting to the conditions. It was seaming quite a lot. We didn't plan to nullify that threat. After we got out of the powerplay, bowleds and LBWs, we never got any partnership going.

I think everyone is practicing well and they are going through their process well. It is just about putting that into the game. You have to find your individual way to do what you're doing in practice.

Yeah, we are going to a different ground. Have to assess the conditions and work out the best way to get to a total and make sure, we are looking to take wickets. Supposed we have to pick different tools that we have."

9:56 PM IST, Local Time: The inevitable has happened. The match has ended in a no-result. Pakistan would be really upset with this result, they had the win in sight but the weather gods had other plans. England remain undefeated against Pakistan in WODIs and the Women in Green's path to the semis is all but gone. Umpires call both captains and they shake hands, Pakistan and England will share a point each. England go to the top of the table while Pakistan remain at the bottom.
9:48 PM IST, Local Time: The rain has intensified, Pakistan's dreams of a WODI win over England are slowly fading away.
9:45 PM IST, Local Time: Nasser Hussain, on air, says that we need to be back on 10:14 PM IST, Local Time to start a 20-over game. He adds that the rain needs to stop at around 10 for the ground staff to get the covers off. If it is reduced to a 20-over contest, Pakistan would need 79. They already have 34 runs on the board from 6.4 overs.
9:40 PM IST, Local Time: It is absolutely bucketing down now in Colombo. We are losing overs as the minutes tick by. Pakistan would be keen to get back on the field and tick off the remaining runs while England would be happy to go back with a point from this situation.
