Milestone
It was a gripping series finale in Indore, but it just wasn’t India’s evening. New Zealand were too good on the day in all three facets of the game. Virat Kohli’s century and Harshit Rana’s half-century briefly ignited hope for the hosts, but the task proved too steep and India eventually fell short by 41 runs.

New Zealand arrived in India with an inexperienced side and played out of their skins to come from behind and clinch the series 2–1. With several first-choice players missing for various reasons, it was always going to be an uphill task, but they stuck to their plans and outplayed India in the crunch moments.

For now, that’s all we have for you. Up next, the two teams will lock horns in a five-match T20I series. This is Ajay Pal Singh signing off on behalf of my colleagues Ninaad Dixit, Raju Khariya, and Aman. Good night!
Bracewell collects the trophy from Mithun Manhas and heads to his teammates to pose in front of the winners’ board.
Michael Bracewell (New Zealand Captain): "Yeah, it is always a pleasure to come here and play in front of these fans and play such a great team. To be able to come over here and win a series for the first time is pretty special.

(On if he thought he would win the series when he left New Zealand shores) Look, you are always hopeful that you are going to come over here and play some good cricket. As a team, we know what works for us as a team. And, it has been outstanding to be able to do that and test ourselves in some fine conditions.

(What makes New Zealand click) I think we are the sum of all the parts of the team. We try to work as a group. It is a part of the Kiwi way, we are a small country from the bottom part of the world and we try to work together to take on some of the bigger countries in the world. I think we really rally around that as a group, and when things like these happen, it is pretty special.

(On Daryl Mitchell) He has been amazing in ODIs for a number of years. He has led the batting group. Yeah, he is a pretty humble guy, to see him go out and do his things, is pretty special.

(What stood out for him) Whenever you expose new people to international cricket. Having 3 debutant on this tour, getting used to this crowd is a great thing. They have stepped up for us. Yeah, growing the depth of cricket in New Zealand is awesome.

(When asked if he's going to be fit for World Cup) Yeah, hopefully."
TRIVIA: Daryl Mitchell becomes the fourth New Zealand player to win the Player of the Series award in an ODI bilateral series against India, after Shane Thomson (1994), Ross Taylor (2020), and Tom Latham (2022).
Daryl Mitchell (Player of the Match & Series): "[On his batting] It's nice to contribute to the team and to get a win in India is special.

As a group we got partnerships. With Will Young to start and what GP does is quite special. Nice to get across the line.

I am just trying to concentrate to being in present. Trying to watch the ball and then repeat again and again and hopefully make some good decisions on the way.

[on partnership with Phillips] GP is a good mate. It's awesome to see him get a hundred as well. Partnerships are something we are proud of as a group and to do that with GP, he's obviously been out injured for a long time as well so just really proud how he came back and doing what he's doing.

[on his career] I love playing for my country. Took a little while to get here but I look at all those years in domestic cricket helped me to work out how I wanna go about it once I got the Silver Fern on my chest so really proud to be part of this group."
Player of the Series: Daryl Mitchell
Player of the Match: Daryl Mitchell
Shubman Gill (India Captain): "Yeah, definitely. After the first match, coming here 1-1, the way we played was a bit disappointing. A lot of areas that need some improvement.

(On possible concerns) I wouldn't say concern. But there are areas we need to look back and do some things better.

(On Virat Kohli and other positives) The way Virat bhai is batting is definitely a plus always. The way Harshit has batted in this series. Batting at 8 is not easy and the way he has stepped up and the way our pacers have bowled is pretty good.

(On promoting Nitish Kumar Reddy in batting order) Yeah, I mean keeping the World Cup in mind and where it will be played. We want to give him opportunities and we want to give him enough overs, to see what combinations work for us and what deliveries work for him."
9:46 PM IST, Local Time: Harsha Bhogle is ready with the post-match presentation...
This is India's first home ODI loss after winning the toss since October 2022.
