Another electrifying T20 Blast season comes to a close, and itβs Somerset who reign supreme in 2025! After finishing runners-up last year, theyβve gone one step further this time, clinching their 4th title in style. Finals Day at Edgbaston once again lived up to its billing, serving up three nail-biting thrillers that kept fans on the edge of their seats.
The long-standing streak has finally been broken β for the last six years, the team winning the second semi-final went on to lift the trophy. But tonight, it wasnβt meant to be, as Somerset got the better of Hampshire to script their own piece of history.
For now, this is Pritam Dey signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Darpan Tikiya who, along with scorer/analyst Zeeshan Naiyer brought all the actions of this clash. Stay tuned for more cricketing action from around the world. BYE BYEπ
Lewis Gregory (Somerset captain): "We like to do it the hard way, don't we? (giggles). To drag it back from that powerplay (in the first innings) and to drag it back after losing those wickets (in the second innings) was amazing to watch.
It is much nicer being out there (in the middle). We always knew that we were one big over away. (Will) Smeed and Sean (Dickson) rode that wave very well. They targeted the right balls at the right time.
Just super chuffed for the lads. It was a much better wicket than morning. It was a really good cricket wicket. Great day, great surface."
James Vince (Hampshire Captain): "Yeah, brilliant game. Brilliant game all-round. Firstly, congratulations to Lewis and his team. They have been magnificent in this season and are deserved winners. To my guys, proud of everyone's efforts. We gave our all in the Final. Few guys were struggling with cramps. We felt just short of it. Our head coach is leaving us after 7 years. So, we are gutted not to win the trophy for him.
I have said it before as well. Somerset are always here in the knockouts. They have been awesome throughout the competition and are deserved winners. I think the start we got off to, we should've got 10-20 more runs. With the ball, we struggled to stop the boundaries as they found the gaps way too often. Willy (Smeed) played an unbelievable knock.
Yeah, we have had many magnificent youngsters in our side. Some of them have been brilliant this season and hopefully they get better going forward."
Will Smeed (Player of the Match): "Unbelievable. We started off saying we wanted to win the comp. We have match-winners throughout, so we hope it is somebody's day. We have been a consistent side over the years, so there is a lot of role clarity.
(On missing out on his hundred) The focus was on chasing the score down. The disappointment was more about the timing of my dismissal. Edgbaston is a great place to play cricket."
Player of the Final: Will Smeed
