The desiderium has ended for the Northamptonshire fans. For the first time since 2016, their team has made it to the finals day. Meanwhile, Surrey — who were reached the semis twice in a row and were featuring a number of active England players today — have been knocked out. Isn't that why we love sport?

Ravi Bopara (Player of the Match): "Amazing win for us. We knew there was going to be some rain today. We knew there will be some movement early on for the seamers.
We just wanted to keep going. Good day for us. We wanted someone to go out there and get a quickfire 70 or 80. I had fire in my belly today and that's when I knew, I will perform well today.
It was very slippery out there. We went to yorkers in the death overs and it worked out well for us.
The fans have been brilliant for us. Happy days and looking forward to finals day now."

2:51 AM IST, 10:21 PM local time: Northamptonshire Steelbacks win by 7 runs and qualify for the semifinals of the T20 Blast for the first time since 2016.
What do they say? "Patience is bitter but it's fruit is sweet". Today, that makes sense in two ways. First, is of course the story of the Steelbacks and their qualification into the semis. The second is the story of this match itself.
Heavy rain delayed the start. But in the end, the wait was worth it. We witnessed a rollercoaster of a game. It ebbed and flowed through a bazillion thrilling bends and in the end, David Willey and his men came out on top. It was the captain himself who set the tone with a brilliant first over in the second innings dismissing Ryan Patel for a duck. But Surrey fought back riding on an Ollie Pope blitzkrieg and a fighting knock from Sam Curran.
George Scrimshaw's spell in the middle kept us at the edge of our seats. He was expensive, but picked three crucial wickets that pegged the opposition back. And then, towards the end, Ben Sanderson stepped up. Together, him and Willey conceded just a solitary boundary in the final three overs to help Northamptonshire seal the deal.
Though, the headline act was Ravi Bopara, who scored a scintillating hundred in the first innings. The veteran came in after his team, having asked to bat first, lost a wicket off the first ball. While he looked purposeful from the off set, by the time he mustered up a start, Steelbacks were already three-down — all of those wickets going to Jordan Clarke. But that did not deter Bopara's intent. He continued to throw his bat around, unfurling some drool-worthy shots every now and then. In those were some jaw-dropping, tennis-like forehand smashes which cleared the straight boundary with amazing ease. Nobody else scored more than 20.

1 IN THE AIR AND DROPPED!! David Willey puts it down at long on but it doesn't matter now for the Steelbacks. Full around off, right in the slot of the batter. Sam Curran clears his front leg and looks to smash it over the long-on fence. He mistimes it from the toe end of his blade. Willey at long-on, runs in and settles underneath it. He puts down a simple catch. The batters rotate strike. What a thriller at the Kia Oval! Northamptonshire stun the home crowd as they clinch a narrow 7-run win to book their place at Finals Day for the first time since 2016. Heartbreak for Surrey, who bow out of the competition.
They are checking for the height of that full toss. But Curran was a long way down the pitch. Turns out to be a legal ball! Steelbacks have a foot in the semifinals.
13.5 B Sanderson to S Curran
2 High full toss outside off, slower ball. Curran steps down the track and whacks it along the ground to the left of wide long on for a brace. The TV Umpire will have a look at the height but it's absolutely fine. It's a fair delivery! 9 required off 1 ball now for Surrey.
