Tom Taylor and Ben Dwarshuis started off well by taking three wickets inside the powerplay, but Wayne Madsen and Samit Patel brought Derbyshire into play with their stand of 33 runs. Ross Whiteley, the next man in, shared a 47-run stand with Madsen. However, they kept losing wickets at crucial junctures.
Madsen then had Martin Andersson at the other end, and the duo kept Worcestershire during the 38-run stand for the sixth wicket, but with Andersson's departure, the hosts' hope went down the drain.
